Re: CTS XHP

i have an XHP kitchen knife with 60hrc reprofiled at 8-10 dps with a toothy edge, excels pretty much in cutting stuff. i cut bony fishes (up to 1kg) with it and the edge hasn't chipped nor rolled. the edge keeps its sharpness better than my VG10 japanese knives but what impresses me more is how quic...

Re: Rock Salt impression

thank you for the detailed review.
btw, what made you choose H1 instead of VG10 if you're not using it in a marine/aquatic area?
i asked because i've been using my vg10 spydies for gardening at times and corrosion has never been a problem.

Once or twice per week, depends on how dirty They get.
salt crusts could accumulate in clothing especially if you're always sweating but evaporates leaving salty crystals which eventually get into the stuff you're putting in your pocket. maybe this could be causing it.

Re: CTSBD1 stainless?

In my other pocket i carried 3 knives, of the 4 knives i carried only 1 didnt rust, and that was the pacific salt.. Brand New delica vg 10 developed tiny rustspots and a d2 blade larger ones.. Inland, cruwear will seem stainless. Near saltwater though, you'll see some rust.
no doubt about that.
even 8cr13mov rusts as easy in that condition

Re: $142 Ultimate Sharpmaker setup worth it?

i also have the ultimate SM setup, I'd say buy the diamonds/cbn.. you'll definitely use it. I didn't have much use for the UF stones though.. made me wish I should have bought a good strop and some diamond paste instead

ZDP189 is not a stainless steel, almost all of the chromium is tied up into making carbides.

It was developed that way.
is why my cruwear is more corrosion resistant than my zdp?

Re: Fist in the Eye

I don't think there's anything wrong with S30V and I've never had any of mine chip. The fact that I find VG10 already an overkill makes this steel more than ample for my uses. What I don't like about S30V is how quick it loses its push-cutting sharpness compared to VG10 and I don't care much about t...
