Re: New to Spyderco
If possible try to handle a knife before purchasing because you never know how it will feel to you without the trial. Polestar, Native5, and Endela are models worth a look. I would go with the one that “felt” best before the steel, lock or clip. A Para 3 would have the hump similar to your current k...

Re: Mystery DLT Exclusive
Does the Tuff have a negative blade angle like the other Schempp designs? I would be interested in that case.

Re: Change my mind: the Shaman costs too much
You are very welcome! It’s not a very original thought at it’s core but it is worth remembering that an object can be more than sum of its parts. There are lots of forum members that are passionate about a model, or a type of lock or Spyder edge, I try to keep an open mind about all these things. I ...

Re: Trying to understand the attributes of negative blade rake.
I think if Sal Glesser and Ed Schempp agree on an nba being desirable that should end the argument. I know that I bought one of Mr. Schempps Bowie’s at SFO a couple of years ago and that is a fantastic knife in hand. I had never given any thought to the blade angle until I bought and used that knife...

Re: KnifeJoy Exclusive PM2 - Green G10/DLC 20CV Steel
Good point! Now that you said that I’m wondering too. There are a few knives that account for most of the sprints it seems but dealers surely have a feel for what sells. I don’t have a Para 3 or any interest in one or for that matter a PM 2. I would like to see a little more variety in the regular p...

Re: Change my mind: the Shaman costs too much
I just bought a Shaman (finally!) after wanting one since the release but not wanting another black G10/S30V knife. I own a couple of PM2’s and it’s a great knife. In my hand and pocket the PM2 is good but not great. I have tried aftermarket scales, deep carry clips and swapping from tip down to tip...

A Schempp Persian would be my first choice. A khukri might get me to buy if it weren’t too expensive.

Re: SPY27 PM2 Colorado Edition
I love the scales. I don’t love the blade art so much. Most uses of the flag don’t appeal to me. You see them everywhere but when you’re in public and they play the anthem people don’t remove hats, stand etc. as I was taught and passed on to my children. I won’t be buying one but I am glad to see Sp...

Re: Sharpening super steel with the sharpmaker?
I use my Sharpmaker on S110 and S90, it seems to work well. I’m not trying to reprofile or polish or achieve a mirror edge though. I do strop afterwards as well and I can tell that the blade is sharper afterwards. Whether it’s as good as some more skilled and patient gurus could achieve I don’t know.

Re: Do you disassemble your knife to lubricate it?
I don’t hesitate to take a knife apart if I have a reason, scale swaps usually, but not to lube specifically. I clean and lube while it’s apart but adjusting the pivot screw is a more efficient way to change the action of a knife. Having said that the only Spyderco I ever took apart that needed any ...

Re: Manix 2 LW needs an update badly.
I have 2 Manix LW’s an old BD 1 model and a SPY 27. The translucent blue FRCP is one of my favorite handle materials ever and I would love to see more colors available. I like these knives as they are and would be against screw construction if it involves a price increase. I get the feeling I’m in t...

Re: Caly 3 & 3.5 LW
I’m hoping that as a LW model we’re going to get colored handles and a steel besides VG 10 or S30V. I will have to see the configuration and price before I jump on board but I am interested.

Re: Increase in Exclusives?
I have very mixed feelings on this subject. Of course Spyderco has every right to sell knives any way they want to. I sometimes see sprints or limited releases (whatever they are called) that are desirable but have missed out on purchasing one. I would like regular production to exhibit greater vari...

Isn’t there a thread that mentions screw together construction for the forthcoming Manix LW and both sizes of Caly? My usually (ha!) razor sharp memory is drug addled following a bike accident but I think I saw that somewhere.

Re: Sal - What's next for the Military?
Maxamet and the Smock button Comp lock for me. I wouldn’t mind S 45V or Spy 27 either. The button eliminates the hot spot issue with the Comp lock and any steel besides S 30 V would be interesting. I have two Militaries now and they’re both Ti with S30 V. I would like a 3rd and S110 V would work or ...

Re: What's your favorite large Spyderco folder?
I voted Millie but I almost chose Other for the Super Leaf. I have a serious need for a Shaman. Waiting on a steel that’s not S30V and color that’s not black.
