Re: Scales Adhesive
Another happy user of G-Flex here. The flex allows for the variable rates of expansion/contraction of tang and scale materials. Not only are slower curing epoxies usually stronger than fast-set formulas, they are also more water resistant. Epoxies that cure at room temperature can be convinced to so...

Re: Yo2 sticky lock
#2 pencil lead is a mix of materials. One is a very fine abrasive (clay) and another is a dry lubricant (graphite). This is well known. It is also known that rubbing steel across a fine abrasive in the presence of a lubricant polishes the steel. High grit natural water stones are essentially sintere...

Re: Why Laminates?
A clad blade typically has a hard core with softer cladding. This actually reduces the bending strength, but what's important is how it increases toughness, or work of fracture. The clad blade is much less likely to shatter than a very hard monosteel blade.

Re: S110V vs. S90V
Hi everyone. Are there any advantages of S110V over S90V? Also how does M390 compare? Thanks. Btw s110v and s90v, I'd be surprised if you noticed a difference besides an extremely controlled test. m390 is supposed to split the difference between the other two and s30v. Keep in mind that high Vanadi...

Re: Question for Sal and Spyderco .
I love my ZDP Stretch. I did the Graley mod to mine (removed the hump) and love it even more. I don't hunt, so don't find a need for the hump for skinning game, and almost never place a finger on the forward spine for detail work, though that seems like a legitimate use case. Unlike Gary, I left the...

I'm not a big tattoo fan, but that is extremely well executed work, looks almost like a photograph. Respect to the artist who did it - incredible work.

Re: Military and Paramilitary: Point Strength?
The splinter-picker tip is one of the PM2's best assets for my use. I use that tip often to initiate cuts. Yes, a fine tip is easy to break, but it is worth the being careful in order to have that functionality. The straight spine makes the tip very easy to locate, easy to place on target when pierc...

Re: Pocketfriendly-ness
Delica and Stretch are very pocket friendly, the PM2 less so because it is longer and fatter. Only carry PM2 clipped because it'll get stuck sideways if carried loose. The Delica carries very well loose, and the Stretch is okay, but I typically clip it.

Re: Working Class Dogs
Yep, I use tools for a living, too. Lots of my equipment is very old because I take good care of it, so it'll last. The concept of "beating on" a knife is simply alien to me. I learned to be frugal as a child and that includes being careful with my belongings. My Wap brand shop vacuum cost...

Re: Working Class Dogs
It's all about your perspective and opinion on value. For example, lets talk about work boots. I don't mean casual work boots, I mean boots that can walk you through **** and back and keep your feet in one piece. You can go out and buy the best boots your local shoe store sell, for example maybe yo...

Re: What is your favorite version of the Spyderco ParaMilitary?
I favor the blue M390. The steel is balanced and I just like blue a lot. Even bought a pre-need replacement just in case there weren't more runs. Turns out there were, which is good.

Re: Poll: What are your two favorite Spyderco blade shapes (and why)?
I voted for leaf because I think that's what's on my Delica and PM2. This is the best all around blade shape for the pocket knife cutting I do. I also voted for reverse S because it is wickedly effective for its intended purpose, and invokes a visceral reaction just looking at it.

Re: Spyderco's Answer To The Buck Model 110?
JD made mention of the target audience at the beginning of this thread as one of his reasons he sees the Military as Spyderco's answer to the 110, but wasn't the Military designed by Sal as a folder he'd be confident in giving to his son joining the military? I don't know what the designer of the 1...

On large shears I use the Sharpmaker rods freehand, moving the rod with the shear stationary, preferably clamped in a vise.

Re: Sharpmaker Failure
Extremely cheap stainless blades are soft and stringy. The apex bends back and forth as you sharpen the sides alternately. The resulting burr is huge and hard to cleanly eliminate. The solution is to buy better knives. Applying too much force is a common beginner mistake on the Sharpmaker. Especiall...
