Don't recall hearing of any bad batches of AUS8. It is usually regarded as a fairly easy to sharpen steel, that takes a great edge, and holds it moderately well. I only have the FRN model, but it is one of my favorites. I think it is extremely well designed, and offers great flexibility and utility. Should be there for one for self defense, should the need ever arise.

I carry it weakside, but it is carried more than any other knife I have, except my Sebenza.
