Re: 3"Gayle Bradley

I'd rather see Spyder continue the evolution of the GB line while keeping the same general lines and blade length. I'd also like to see the Advocate evolve. It's a great design that got off to a rocky start. I think a little makeover could really help this model take off. Hope Spyderco doesn't walk ...

Re: Suggestion on how to greatly improve the Manix 2

OK, how did you do that, custom liners? If so, where can I find them :) Liners are completely replaced with Flytanium Ti scales :) Here are the details: https://forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?t=82934 I now have several of these, they compare in weight to a Manix LW, and hold up very well. BTW, ev...

Just grind it all off.
Always enjoy looking at your mod Evil D. I also prefer less jimping on the Manix 2.

Re: Looking at a Caly

Wondering if the full sized calypso will come back. Seems similar to the chief. If the chief sells well maybe try the calypso again? At first I thought the Native Chief would satiate my long desire for the resurrection of the C54 Calypso and for awhile it did, at least on paper. They are very simil...

Re: What would folding pocket knives look like if Sal never started Spyderco?

There would be a heck of a lot of brass/stainless steel bolsters with wood/jig bone scales. E.g. Buck 110. Google images of "Pocket Knives 1981" and see for yourself. I can attest as I was there. Then note, amongst the sea of bolsters and jig bone/wood scales, there's the original Spyderco...

Re: Looking at a Caly

Same here. Also, excuse my ignorance, what's a kick and how are you adjusting it? The blade doesn't nest into the handle very far when closed even when new. As you sharpen the blade the point raises and eventually it becomes exposed. The kick is the part of the tang/ricasso that hits the underside ...

Re: Looking at a Caly

I've had a Caly 3 for about 10 years. My only complaint is that it doesn't take much sharpening to expose the tip out from the handle when closed. You can adjust the kick and kinda fix this but at some point the knife is unusable once the edge hits the inside of the handle from grinding the kick do...

Re: Looking at a Caly

Why does the pivot pin project so far beyond the surface of the handle? Kinda has a hub-cap look to it. My other Spydercos are flush/recessed, or barely projecting. Does this hang up in the pocket at times and does it affect grip? Also don't like the pinned assembly. CG I've owned four Calys for ma...

You can't chop or baton wood with a folder. Neither is a big deal with the right technique. I've done both with everything from Opinels to Voyagers XLs.
+1. You got to this before me.

I don't. My habit is to give any new knife a few swipes on a strop just to make sure the edge is clean.

Re: Have you tried to open an Ikuchi with wet hands?

No problem here either. My finger tips are unusually smooth. Update my previous response above. Still no problem opening with wet hands, but I do have to apply a bit more focus and effort (wet or dry) when compared to similar sized knives with flipper tab and ball bearing pivot systems (e.g. Brad Z...

Re: Ikuchi

Wonder if we'll see a CQI version later this year. I sold mine after remedying the exposed tip. I want another one. I won't complain if they make the action a bit slicker too - bearings? I believe a pivot change from washers to bearings is beyond the scope of CQI, however I too would love to see it...

At this point I'm more interested in seeing an Ikuchi CQI before seeing a sprint. Then I'd like to at least get a peek of the next horseman in the quad Paul has in store for us.
