[img]https://i.imgur.com/czJGdKj.jpeg[/ig] BD1N Z-Cut factory edge at 600x magnification. As discussed above, not many of the larger carbides survive intact all the way down to the apex. The edge measures 17° DPS which is a narrow cross section. Interestingly, the edge appears wavy, areas where the...

Joe, I sent you a PM. Unfortunately I don't know any retailer selling GB at a lower price. I think the Husqvarna axes equal GB in quality of manufacturing, but not finishing-- and at a lower price.

Some pics of the Salt features in the Manix 2 Salt. Looks like everything is fine tuned to combat the corrosion of the hardware which is nice. Everything was nicely loctited which I'm sure also helps protect the hardware. [Img]https://i.imgur.com/lYnUoKa.jpeg[/ig] [Img]https://i.imgur.com/CICavTV.j...

Re: Browsing through the product guide: The two middle ground models that are still missing imo

I don’t really have a need for the Endela with the Stretch2 in the lineup. I realize that some don’t like choils but on some knives I do. The Native is a small knife. It has less than 2.5” of cutting edge and the shaman is not really a native. Maybe if they made one with thinner scales and thinner ...

Re: I have an axe to grind. Confession of an X addict

On the matter of convex sharpening, the "mousepad method" is great with various grits of wet/ dry sandpaper. The upgraded version of this method is to use a neoprene backed sanding block with a handle. If I am not describing this well enough Google the Rooster method of axe sharpening. It ...

Re: I have an axe to grind. Confession of an X addict

I like my Swedish axes quite a bit. All have forged heads and are hafted in hickory. I have a Gransfors Bruks carving axe with an asymmetric bevel, which is a rather specialized carving tool and amazing at what it does. My most used axes are Husqvarna, a small forest axe (1.9 lb head, 26 inch) and a...

Re: Advice re: Manix 2 LW

So I did indeed hold out for the BD1N version. Bought it from Blade HQ, since I didn't trust the Amazon description. This knife came exactly as advertised. Despite it's light weight, it still very feels very capable. The translucent blue is fun, the ergonomics are great, and the BD1N blade is incre...

Re: 2024 Product Guide - Now Live!

It's interesting to see that the CruCarta Manix 2 is listed at 4.9 oz, same as the base model. I am a bit confused. I would have expected a premium version to have skeletonized liners. The description on the website lists skeletonized liners, but both the annual product guide and website list the we...

The satin version is one of my top dogs, and I have the DLC Manix too which is great, I just don't love coated blades.

The price does make it hard to resist. It's the same price the satin blade model was in 2019.

Re: Help: Chaparral Clip Screw Location

I think this was a rolling change in the past few years.

My CF Chap with old clip screw placement (closer to the end of handle) has a April 2020 date code.

My FRN model has the new clip screw placement and date code September 2021.

Hope that helps.

Without changing the profile or introducing jigging or checkering, I think a media blast of some type ( sand, bead, etc) might be the best method.

I suspect geometry is more important than steel in this case-- although high hardness, high carbide steels against bone and cartilage is, um, questionable.

Re: The Spyderco CULT CLASSICS Survey

I'm partial to many old Schempp designs. The Kris especially. The original C27 Jess Horn is definitely one.

I think Moki built many of the best cult classic Spyderco models.

ETA: The Jester is a key in-house designed cult classic.

Re: screwed not pinned Endura Stainless

I was not wanting or expecting this and cant find a photo anywhere of another like this. any info or insig...
