Not in order. That's too much thinking for me.

1) Black Endura VG10
2) Delica ZDP 189
3) R2
4) Manix 83mm
5) Horn ZDP
6) Native 440V
6) Chinook
7) Calypso (all versions)

There are some others that could easily make the list as favorites. These on the list are the ones used the most. Joe L.

I prefer the delica for it's solid chunk of ZPD steel, but I don't mind the Jess Horn at all. The Horn's blade shape gives it advantages in some other circumstances. I say no compromise, give me all of them. The right tool for the job makes things a lot easier. Joe L.

A titanium handled lockback with 2 3/4th inch flat ground M4 or BG42 (polished) blade. For lower costs use a FRN ( D4) handle but don't compromise on the steel. No cladding, just the steel. BG42 at about 58-59 as SOG had troubles with broken blade tips at 60-62. I'm not sure what is best for the M4....

I would love a C-50 Centofante II in 440V
J.D. I've got a C50GP CII in ATS34. Did they even make a 440V version? Joe L.

I'm sorry I gave you the idea that I was on the noob's side as far as his self proclaimed moderator status goes.
This is a dead issue. Please don't try to provoke trouble with petty insults aimed at me but spoken to another. It's pretty much over already unless the mods decide to step in. Joe. L

Why shouldn't you criticize the government? You are paying their wages after all.

Dialex, I , like most others do just that. This isn't the place for it though. There are thousands of forums just for that. This is a spyderco knive forum. That was initially my point anyway. Joe L.

Yeah, uh, we're getting kind of close. I'd appreciate if you'd back off now. Thanks. Joe L.

TazKristi and Carlos cannot be here all the time, so it sometimes becomes necessary to moderate ourselves. Just my opinion though, you can always tell me to go **** myself if you so desire. As was quoted on this forum a while back, "I do better if we stick to knives I'm not even attempting a m...

People truly are sheeple, or perhaps dogs. A large, muscular looking person gets those type remarks too just from being powerfull looking. It's almost as if the pecking order, rolling over and showing their belly like a submissive dog occurs in a way that is guilded with humor. IMO, the b...

What's totally more obscene than fliping a couple of pocket knives is what this criminal government is doing with gasoline and oil prices. That truly is totally rigged and we don't have a choice in that regard at all. Please keep your political opinions out of this knife forum. There are places for...

I believe that the moly and tungston are at fairly low levels and used mainly for grain refinement. I don't think they were significant in the early spectral burns. I wasn't aware an analysis was done. Thanks for the info. Tungsten carbides wouldn't be as hard as vanadium in any event from what I'v...

ZDP is 3% Carbon 20% Chrome. Chrome carbides run about RC 68 giving the steel a hardness of about RC67. This material while hard is not that difficult to sharpen compared to S30V with RC 84 Vanadium carbides...Take Care...Ed Ed, according to the chart Vassali posted it has some molybendum and tungs...

one question to someone that might be better qualified than me. No guessing or presuming please. Should I go buy new DMT sharpeners to use ONLY for my H1 knives as I occasionally use higher carbon stainless and even carbon steels with them? For that matter should I be using different equipment for s...

Sal, if you have any of that BG 42 left...

Can you use it up on a sprint run of something small, metal handled, and flat ground ? With a good polish it would be really nice. Come to think of it it would look good with G2 if it was polished up good. I went to a knife show yesterday and saw nothing on the market from any big maker using it exc...

From the chart:

3C-20Cr-Mo-W (P/M steel) would mean

3% carbon + 20% Chrome + ? moly + ? Tungsten

What does the "P/M Steel" mean? Joe L.

ZDP isn't new. It's just new to us. Someone on a different thread in a different forum had a grading F to A+ for hardness and toughness in some Japanese steels ( including Gin 1, ATS 34 & ZDP189). ZDP 189 had the best grade in hardness but not the best grade in toughness. I don't recall it's exa...
