Polestar/ Alcyone. Designed to eliminate the need for a choil, if I recall correctly.
If a nice mid-sized knife like the Polestar, with no choil, was given the compression lock, I really do feel like that would be the ultimate Spyderco knife.

Re: Lamentations of the Discontinued

Changing tastes, especially fashion or fad items. Many high fashion trendy items fall out of favor quickly. This is the biggest reason. I think a lot of new models, especially the collaborations, are made to appease the collector base. In order to keep those buyers around, you constantly have to ch...

Huh, well that's strange. I found the video that pic is from. It seems like they may have dropped that divot from the design.

The PM2 is their most popular model of all time. Maybe 2nd to the Delica. It's not going anywhere.

Re: Where is my Bow River ?

There have been some changes to knife itself. I remember that is had 3 hollow pins and now it has two full pins and two hollow. I think that simple kydex/boltatron sheath would do the trick, no need for leather. As far as I know, the Bow River was always shown with 3 solid pins and one hollow pin a...

Been saying the same thing for months, No one listens. I think people aren't listening because it doesn't make sense. With the advent of all these YouTube and social media "influencers", I think Spyderco is more popular than they've ever been before and Spyderco wasn't prepared for their ...

Re: Compression Lock questions?

It flicks and pinches almost every time I open my knife. Some models are horrible. I hate that I have to jocky the grip out to my finger tips to engage the small lock well. It's almost inoperable with gloves. This lock is strictly for blade flickers. Reducing their knives to fidget toys. I've never...

and now I own three on sheer hype.

So many good Spyderco models get overlooked and eventually discontinued because people feel the need to buy the "hype" models instead of another model they may really like.

Re: The threesome fight!

If the benchmade does not wobble it is too stiff to open. The partial liners and plastic handle is likely the culprit...just mush for a handle...and a plastic unlined handle with a painted black blade at this cost in this range? Get serious. I just have to make a little correction. That Benchmade's...

Re: Where is my Bow River ?

The weird part is that nobody from Spyderco had ever commented on what is going on. May came and went and there's silence. Is it delayed by a month? 2 months? 6 months?

I have hesitations due to corrosion/rust, but the D2 hasn't given me any issues.
D2 is still semi-stainless. 52100 has very low corrosion resistance. You will essentially need a "patina" or baby it and keep it oiled all the time. They really aren't comparable in that way.

Re: Manix 2 now in BD1N?

And that assumes the Chinese factory is even capable of working with cruwear. I'm sure Sal said the China factory isn't set up to work with the harder steels like Cruwear. So the only way to ever see an Alcyone/Polestar in Cruwear is if they moved production to a different country. That would at le...

Something that can take abuse. Might be cutting up a peach, tomato, fishing line , small metal wire, opening a can, cutting a rope, etc.

Sounds like a small multi-tool would be best.

The people who want hard use knives simply go out and do their job, beat on their knife/tools, then...

Re: Bow river ??

A hunting/camp knife seems like a strange application for serrations. Maybe that is just my bias though. I hate serrations. I think a partially serrated knife is the perfect hunting knife, especially when it comes to quick and dirty butchering of some animals in the field or at camp. For example, t...
