Re: So, Sal, is the Caly3 model extinct ?!

Maybe my memory is failing, but I seem to recall the Jr. being a one-piece molded handle. I don't know if it would require a new mold to change to a screw pivot, but if it does it probably shoots that idea down.

Re: So, Sal, is the Caly3 model extinct ?!

That Calypso Jr. handle mold must be getting pretty long in the tooth by now. I hope it has another Sprint in it. My fingers are long enough that I prefer the extra width at the pivot area over the deeper choil of the Caly3. I'd buy a Junior Sprint in just about anything except AUS8.

Re: Scale swap question...

The description on the website says the liners are full on the lightweight rather than nested as is common on other lightweights, so you should be good.

Re: Yet another Pre Diver post

Near as I can tell from Spydiwiki, it's a 2001 Pre-Diver. Not a lot of info available, but a pretty rare piece of Spyderco history. It was before H-1, so it will require some care to prevent rust if you choose to use it. I would suggest getting a Salt2 and using it instead.

All I could find in the wiki article.

Emerson Wave opener were made for a self defense forum. It was limited to 500 pieces, of those a 25 were bought and embellished for Messerforum.net.

It's a starting point if you're interested in searching.

Enabling group for certain. There are exactly 7 million steps in the program, which leads to Nirvana, Valhalla or Olympus depending on your path at 6 million.

Re: Need info about this knife.

The Boye dent in the lockbar was added in 2002, and it was replaced by the Gen4 in 2006, so somewhere in that span. The Krein regrind probably cost as much as the knife. Since it's discontinued and Tom isn't doing regrinds any more, it would be almost impossible to replace, but the actual value woul...

Re: How many Spyderco Knives did you buy in 2023?

I was over a grand for the Seconds Sale after I corrected them on the Swayback. It rang up as a small zipper pouch for $10 instead of the $150 it was supposed to be.

I can't imagine what it must be like for some of you folks who have knife collections with numbers in the hundreds. How do you choose? How do you manage?
Try in the thousands. How do I manage? Cargo pants. I carry more knives than most hardware stores every day.

I just tried throwing 200 in my cart, but I didn't have $30,000 to cover the tab, so I didn't try checking out. It did let me put them in there, though.

I plan to do the same thing I always do, just slower. (I have been freehanding on diamond hones since 1980.) For those of us who don't have your usual sharpening procedure memorized... at what grit will you start? I won't know until I have them in hand. I usually reserve the Extra Coarse DMT for ch...

No limit of 2 on this one?
Sal said they made 2000 to cover the tooling costs, so they should have about 1800 to sell. At $150 a pop, hopefully the flippers will go broke trying to resell them.

I got my two without drama even though I was busy doing something else at drop time.

That's just the Seconds Sale. Add in all the Mule drops and I'm over 20 for the year, as usual.

I don't see anything worth replacing the blade over. I gave one like that to my girlfriend for yardwork years ago. It was usually packed full of mud to the point it couldn't be closed, but she'd still be using it. I don't know if actual GIN-1 is still available, but Carpenter has updated versions th...

Re: Need info about this knife.

Tom does great work, but it seems to me the SS Endura came drilled and tapped for RHTU or RHTD from the factory before the Gen4 went 4-way.

I still have a ZDP-189 Endura that Tom did for me before he started putting the "Krein Regrind" logo on.

But when you snap the blade putting on handle scales (see the ZDP-189 Mule) they do stand behind it.

I've been whittling some hard wood with a REX45 Native Chief and I've been very pleased with it. I don't know how it would stand up to being batoned through a car with a hammer, but it stands up well to my use.
