Check out Jdavis882 on YouTube. I've been very impressed with this guy's knife reviews.

This review is "Top Five Cutting Performance Production Knives under $150."
Right to your question.

Got my new Spydie Caly3, VG10, and touched the blade with my thumb to see if it was sharp. WOW!

Favorite of 2011 and all time so far is the Spyderco Sage1. The Chaparral is equal as long as I can have both. However, if I could only have one it would be the Sage1 without question because it is a bit tougher. Keeping that thought in mind the Gayle Bradley I'd consider in the running but as the ...

I'm glad to read this thread. My only Spydie is the Caly3, and I'm ready to buy a good folder where the blade will stay sharp FOREVER. I'm not good at sharpening. Perhaps ZDP, Stellite, whatever. I like the Caly3 design, and I've liked the Sage in the past, although never owned one. I don't mind spe...

Thank you, Sal, Hickster and dc50 for your kind replies. There are three solutions I can try... and perhaps end up with another Spydie in the process.
I am very impressed (but not surprised) that "the Boss" helped a brand-new Spydie fan. Awfully good customer service.

"Too-good" pocket clip on Caly 3

Okay, I just got this nice knife. The VG-10 blade steel is very nice...It is super, but I can't get the thing out of my pocket. Yes, the paper clip conceals it well, but I'm thinking I would have been (personally) happier to get a 3" blade with liner-lock and a standard old-style pocket clip. A...

Of course you guys are correct. I just checked the "label" in the mailing box. That's what happens when a guy doesn't know the difference, even when I have it in my hand. Bummer! I got a lot to learn. Thanks. And yeah, I like it. Also found out not to test the sharpness with my thumb. Was ...

My new Caly 3, VG-10, CF

I asked for your opinions and you gave 'em. I decided to get the Caly 3 for my first Spydie. I was carrying a Benchmade (154CM) for six years, but it is relegated to a desk drawer at this point. Very impressed with this knife. Of course, demo'd the paper cutting to my wife and it did a great job...a...

Blade steel Survey results - Favorite EDC

The following link, by hollar44, was a survey requesting favorite EDC's. http://www.spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38991 I had also asked (Sonny - earlier post) on this forum for reco's for a new folder model, and you folks kindly reco'd a few and I picked the Caly 3, VG-10, G10. Mine will arr...

Did ya see Kbuzbee's post? Hurrah for the wives of this world. I always seem to lose a handgun and I used to think someone stole it out of our home. I'm somewhat paranoid...then I finally learned to ask my wife to help, once I've given up. It usually takes her about four minutes. Thanks, Lord, for m...

I just ordered a Caly 3 and wrote my son-in-law cop that he might wish to consider a Police model...or something similar. He does NOT carry a Spydie right now; hard to figure.

Interesting polls lately

I enjoyed Kbuzbee's poll of "best edge retention." It looks like it conforms quite nicely to carbon and chromium content, as we might expect. And I enjoyed the discussion. But I wish some forum member would take it one step further. Note vampyrewolf's survey which follows on "Favorite...

Well, to close out this thread, thanks again to all who posted to help me out. I ordered a Caly 3, VG-10, G-10, 3" SE this weekend, and I expect it by Friday. Thanks for reco's on buying sites also (I used Sierra). I'll post again once I get the knife and let you know how I like it.

Thanks to all you folks for your kind suggestions. I have been having fun trying to learn about the various Spyderco models and blade steels. Of course, I am looking at the Caly 3, G-10, VG-10 model. And due to your suggestions, it can be purchased at a nice discount.
Have a nice week.

New guy needs one "shorter" EDC folder

A newbie here. I'm looking for a knife with a pocket-clip, serrated or combo blade length (or cutting edge?) less than or equal to 3" blade, so I can legally carry it with me when I go visit kids and gd-kids out of state. I hate to go anywhere without my folder. I am not a collector, just a mil...
