Re: Native 5 Salt SE or PE?
Gotta' disagree with MG2. You need to balance your Native 5 collection by getting one in SE. I have five Native 5s: 2 PE (M4 & Maxamet), 2 SE (S35VN & Magnacut), and 1 CE (Never Summer LC200N).

Re: CPM Cruwear chipping?
It’s funny that a lot are saying that basically I’m lying about “ only cutting cardboard “ but that’s the truth , I may have cut some meat at one point but that was in the first few months of having it. No, what they're saying is you fail to appreciate how hard plain cardboard, no staples, can be o...

Re: Pattern Nicks on Blade Edge
440V is much more wear resistant than G-2. I've had good results sharpening my Starmate using DMT coarse (blue), followed by DMT fine (red), and then stropping on leather with green chrome. Alternating strokes to avoid forming a large burr, since 440V is notorious for forming a burr that's difficult...

Re: Rock Jumper comparison thread + general info
For the record, I am in favor of placing as much blade/cutting edge in a handle as possible. But, I wonder how many have considered: assuming both blade height and the curve of the spine are deliberate design choices and not just, "how it turned out," you can't change the blade length with...

Re: Tasman Salt vs DF hawkbill both SE
I don't have a Tasman, but I do have an old school Merlin SE in AUS8, which is about the same size, and two H1 Spiderhawks, one PE and one SE. The PE Spyyderhawk is my beater yard work knife, used for anything and everything, including cutting obnoxious weeds out of the soil. The SE knives primarily...

Re: Tasman Salt vs DF hawkbill both SE
Which hawbill would you sell me? If that makes a difference, I can get the DF at 85euros and the Tasman at 116. Thanks a lot, It's your money so, no, the price doesn't make any difference. :winking-tongue That said, I'd go with the Tasman. The DF2 is a handy little knife, but the larger blade on th...

Re: A visual guide to Edge geometry vs Blade geometry
Was just experiencing this very phenomenon the other day. My new Kershaw Launch 13 feels, to my fingers, like it's ground about as thin as my my HAP40 Delica wharncliffe, but between its greater blade thickness (3.1mm vs 2.5mm) and saber grind that's only about ⅔ as tall as the Delica's full flat gr...

Re: serrated Delica/Salt 2 sized wharncliffe experience/recommendations
I have all three. While I actually "like" the H1 Salt version best (and will someday finish reprofiling it to 15°), the flat ground Delica and LC200N Salt are better slicers. So, I guess it depends on whether you have an irrational need for liners, or would rather use the knife that's 20% ...

A 20+ year old post from Joyce Laituri:
"James Mattis (rest his soul) once told me about a mushroom farm in California who's harvesters actually used Civilians. The knife was ideal for separating the caps from the stems without injuring the plant (fungi?)."

Re: Weird blade grind/plunge line observation
Looking at some of my flat ground custom knives, which were definitely done using a belt grinder, there's often a slight curve to the plunge line. So, I'm not sure what it might indicate, if anything. But now I'm going to have to check all my flat ground Spydies.

Re: Striving For a Healthy Long Life
I've never understood why people want to live longer rather than better. Eat right, stay fit, die anyway. Why not enjoy the time you have instead of worrying about how to get more? Nobody gets out alive. Get used to it. IMO, one of the worst things that can happen as you get older, other than demen...

Re: Striving For a Healthy Long Life
Some of these folks trying to hit 125+ years of age are spending millions per year to get results. They are the cutting edge of research, and they are creating systems that we can all follow with a little bit of will power and some cash. These anti-aging systems are expensive now, but in 5 years th...

Mindset, genetics, and luck. My dad is a 102 year old WWII combat veteran, who spent 30 years as a police officer. He's never watched his diet, until now that he doesn't have a choice (he lives with my brother and his wife), never exercised beyond playing golf a couple times a week, and has never he...

Regardless of what his plans are for the knives, that shouldn't matter to anyone here but him. What should matter is the potential issue with quality control. we don't always agree, but we do here 100%. it doesn't matter if he wants to flip every one of them. there's no excuse for three copies of t...

Re: Maintaining a maintenace-free Siren
So, we don’t worry about rust, but how do you guys tackle (or ignore) lubrication? I had an S90V Siren that had some galling between the lock bar and blade tang. Those parts are different metals than LC200N, and I’m not sure how galling resistant LC200N is. Thank! Not disputing what you say, but I ...

Oops. Is it not food safe? What I've seen says that it "bonds to steel" and that prevents transfer to your food, but then all their products on their website have the "causes cancer according to California" disclaimer so probably not. A lot of companies put that warning on every...
