Re: Difficult Knife Restoration -- Thoughts?
The knife is either a Puma White Hunter (stag handle) or a Puma Auto Messer (wood handle). You could send a mail to Puma HQ in Germany asking what they would recommend in this case. They will also refinish knives for a fee (and maybe also re-harden them) If you are going to restore it yourself: use ...

Re: What would you do?
Personally i would make a thin convex edge then blend it in with the flat grind, using various grits of wet & dry paper on glass with WD40 as a lubricant. I would also use an edge measuring device and aim for an apex @ ~25 degrees inclusive. CPM Cruwear is quite easy to work with, and it's not t...

It is nice to see New York when it was still a manly town back in the days of Teddy Roosevelt. In that case you might also like this upscaled & colored footage from New York in 1911 as well: https://youtu.be/hZ1OgQL9_Cw Or this footage of New York in the mid 1930's: https://youtu.be/ZpXnEvW0XD0

Re: Elastic ceramic hopefully to mule and more.
What's your preferred oil? My favorite is "Vascomill 10" from Blaser. Quite pricey, but excellent stuff. The oil type i use on my Paper Wheels is Nano-Oil 5 weight. I have been using this oil exclusively for quite a few years now, and so far it's the best i've come across. It remains spec...

Re: Elastic ceramic hopefully to mule and more.
Paper Wheels with diamond paste & oil used on a half-speed grinder (1400-1700 rpm) will not overheat an edge, be it steel, sintered titanium, or ceramic. Not only is there almost no friction due to the high quality oil used, part of the oil is also absorbed by the cardboard Wheels and just sits ...

Re: Elastic ceramic hopefully to mule and more.
An oldie from 2013, but it gives an idea about what is possible using Paper Wheels with diamond compounds on ceramic knives:

Re: Elastic ceramic hopefully to mule and more.
The tough part will be the fact, that you can't sharpen these with diamond plates or diamond stones (like Venev, Practical Shaprening, etc.). I bought two of the smalle kitchen knives from Rahven and also talked to Roman about the sharpening and he said that one needs diamond abrasive (like a lappi...

Re: Old Singer sewing machine
This is my second machine, a model 128 in a treadle, dating from 1925. We found it standing on the pavement in front of the home of an older lady, who was going to a smaller apartment and wanted to get rid of it. She still remembered her grandmother working with it back in the 1930's, but her mother...

Old Singer sewing machine
Currently learning to work a bit with an old Singer VS3 hand sewing machine made in 1890. When new a machine like this would cost you about a month's wages, but nowadays these can be bought for only a handful of euro's. I paid 10 Euro for mine, and there are literally dozens more where this one came...

Re: Knife lubricant
Nano-Oil is still the best i've found for both slickness & long term lubrication, and i've been using all their products for years (5-10-85 weight plus the red grease) On the aspect of corrosion protection however there seem to be better products out there. I still want to try out Eezox in that ...

Re: Recommend a high end chef's knife for wife
A Kohetsu in HAP40 steel @ ~65 HRC would indeed be a very good choice among production kitchen knives.
