Re: Just a pocket knife

Been carrying my SPY27 UKPC for a few days. Very much reminds me of the Spyderco version of a sodbuster. Could easily make this my "one", well until the Magnacut version comes out.

Re: Anyone want to see Vanax in the salt series?

Alphaneuron9, good to have you on the board, I tend to be more on the "software" end of things as opposed to the "hardware" end of things that you poke around in. Stick around, great place to hang. I don't expect to see a Vanax Spydie any time soon. I think Shawn has answered tha...

Re: What’s on your current short list?

Waiting for the MagnaCut Salt UKPK's (both blade versions), the LW Native Chief. If there Stretch XL comes out in either a Salt or K390. I have some other's I'm waiting on for hopefully the MAP holiday.

Superfool if you could post pics, that would be great. I'd love a set of aftermarket scales for my UKPK's.

Re: Hand sharpening tips and techniques for even bevels?

I think it's important to periodically check your angles. I found my wrist would drift. I'd start out at a really nice 15 degree or sub and over time without feedback drifted higher. I also have played around greatly with pressure and have come to the idea that minimal to moderate is best. If nothin...

Oh man, this will be awesome whatever we get. I'm totally in for a k390 and at least one of any salt if not 2. Great design.

Re: Lil Native Mid Backlock variety

Yeah the Chapparral and Lil Native have much in common. I was just comparing them today after receiving my Sun/Moon Chappy (honestly such a great knife, a step up from the light/FRN version). You can make a case that they are redundant.

Re: Byrd Tern: First Impressions

Amazing isn't it how the ergos on some Byrds are better than their bigger sibling. Mine didn't have any of the issues you mention and that's probably due to the low QC at this price point. Mine is the dedicated utility/kitchen folder knife. It made me get the UpTern which is a nice knife also. You k...

Re: What % of you collection has the factory edge angle?

Excellent question Vivi. No doubt inspired by the sharpening thread. I'd say about half of mine. I really need to spring for a goniometer (not sure I got the spelling right on that).

Re: “Best” steels video with Larrin

Murray Carter says the same thing on one of his sharpening videos. Really seems like people are afraid to play with edge angle. I micro-bevel can remedy most issues. Heck Mora uses micro-bevels on their supposedly "zero-grind" scandi edges.

Ok this can't happen. At least yet. I HAVE to have a RockJumper in K390. THEN they can discontinue the knife.

Re: “Best” steels video with Larrin

Maybe folks can answer this for me. S35vn seems to test really well as a balanced steel. Larrin at one time would have listed this as a favorite. Why did it disappear so fast? I have a N5 LW in it and won't let it go anytime soon. What's the deal?

My UpTern (only SS I have, made in China) is .74 cm. Might serve as a comparison point.

I'm stunned at the loss of the wharnies. And puzzled. But as stated on the main forum, the time of the Byrds may be gone with all the high quality, inexpensive knives that have flooded the market.

Re: BUT,WHY?

Maybe with all the ultra carbide rich steels becoming more common they felt they needed to update their abrasives? That is certainly possible. They have always taken great pride in the fact they got knives sharp before they began making knives. Makes me wonder if some sort of hybrid ceramic/CBN bon...
