Re: New S & W 629 PC
OldHoosier62, Colt used to make some great stuff back in the day. I was too young, but I know my dad loved the Pythons, and several others. I'm surprised to hear things have changed. They were once a great company but since the 80's they have steadily gone downhill and every time they are sold they...

Mac that’s a great revolver you’ve got there. I’ve owned a half dozen or so 29/629’s. The Performance Center does an outstanding job. I tell all my customers, always look very closely at any firearm you buy....and look twice as closely at any S&W Performance Center or Colt Custom Shop firearm. ...

With a rubber grip like that I find them pretty soft to shoot and a lot of fun. Lotta HAWSPOWWAAA lol. Coo. Lol, yeah, they feel really good. Can't wait to shoot it man. What model do you have? Oh I'm not lucky enough to own one but I've got every one I can get my hands on. I think my next is gonna...

Re: New S & W 629 PC
I second the use of ,44 specials for practice/plinking...my magnums get lots of "cowboy loads" (240gr @ 850fps) for fun and my carry loads are Winchester 210gr Silvertips because of being controllable and low flash in reduced light. (Yes, I still believe in carrying a wheelgun for personal...

Re: What has become of Bladeforums?
BF was a great place from '05 to around '14....I was offline for a while and when I returned most of my friends and favorite posters were gone to parts unknown...some were Mods. What replaced them have for the most part turned out to be self-important trolls, sad because of what the place use to be....

Re: Anyone here with a recent pacemaker?
Doc...It's a piece of cake. Wear the Halder monitor for a few day and it will help them diagnose exactly what needs done and the best way to do it. I have a pacemaker with defibrillator and it's pretty darned handy when my ticker gets wonky. I have a non-standard heart issue due to nerve damage in m...

... To Ride, Shoot Straight and Speak the Truth by Col. Jeff Cooper, USMC Ret. If you have not read it already, you might like Cooper's The Art of the Rifle . In it one can see the origins of the Scout Rifle concept he advocated later on. I have it and have read it many times, I'm actually re-readi...

South African Army...Rhodesian Army... Another Time, Another Place... Over the years I've served with a few Marines and Soldiers who were former SADF and RA soldiers. Like you said, "another time, another place". I've had several long conversations with some of them about the insurgency/w...

Re: Showing how much a butcher sharpens steel off a blade
That is a lot of sharpening. Those knives need to be discarded. They get better when the blade thins out and loose some height. Wish I could buy them with the older profile.... ;) Was going to say, looks like they are getting good and broke-in. Several I sharpen for my butcher friend look the same,...
Re: Abrasives
I have a rather ridiculous quantity of abrasives...between gunsmithing and offering sharpening as a side-service at the gunshop I built up a stockpile. It's split between natural and manufactured...lots of diamond, ceramic with some SIC and CBN thrown in along with a ton of natural stones. The diamo...

Re: Cookware Pt II,,,,seasoning your cast iron???
We use the crisco and oven method. My husband is a huge Alton Brown fan, so if he says that's the right way to do it, then it's gospel at my house. ;) I understand that myself as I am a huge AB fan. And it works but it is inconsistent especially when doing the older, thinner vintage cast pans. It i...

Cookware Pt II,,,,seasoning your cast iron???
Thought of this and didn't want it getting lost in the other thread..... How do YOU season your cast iron cookware?? For years I followed the traditional ways...Crisco/bake/wipe,Crisco/bake/wipe to build up a polymerized layer on the cooking surface. Tried various oils, temps, time in the oven and n...

What type of pans does everyone cook in??
Well...Do you cook in steel, aluminum, teflon coated, cast iron....or one of the "new fangled" ones ie.. orgreenic, copper/titanium/diamond coated, etc, etc...Or do you have a mish-mash of various types and styles??? What do you like/dislike about your favorites?? Anything you'd like to tr...
