Re: Condolences for your missed deals
Knivesshipfree was the MVP (MVR?) for sales this season. I kept a few tabs open all weekend and really ruminated on a couple of knives. Ultimately, I decided to pass on all of them. But it hurt. $107 for a Spy27 Manix and the 90-something dollar LC200N Pac Salt were the ones that almost got me.

G. Sakai Money Clip Knife
Anyone have any experience with these? I believe they're one of the makers from Seki that Spyderco uses, so I'm sure the quality is fine. But how about function? Wondering how many bills it can fit, and general ease of use.

Re: Value folders
Never used a Polestar, but I have a BD1N Alcyone and I love it. My first Spyderco was a Tenacious, so it feels very familiar.
I'm thinking about picking up an FRN Ambitious because they seem like the last of the incredible value days. A sub-$40 spydie is a rare and beautiful thing.

Re: Integral Compression Lock Shaman?
For whatever reason I just don't care for frame locks. Purely an aesthetic thing. There is a bit more visual symmetry to locks that use a liner and a scale. I know the Shaman's raison d'etre is comfy contoured scales. And that is also a thing I am largely ambivalent about. Overall, just not for me t...

Re: Long Timers: How has this forum changed?
Man, reading this thread made me miss Cliff Stamp. So surreal that he's gone. He was a big voice on all the knife forums at one point or another. Sure, he was a bit prickly, but never malicious. Some people are just wired that way. Dude was passionate.

Re: Best Spydercos for Pumpkin Carving?
I bagged four pumpkins today and carved them up with a Police 4 SE K390. Rather than go with the Jack-O-Lantern style that seems to be so popular, I chose the Hemispherical Style as shown in the picture. Tomorrow the Hemispherical Style pumpkins will be converted to Cuboidal Style pumpkins, otherwi...

Re: Halloween with Spyderco
Something slim and or long? Pumpkins tend to wedge blades real bad. Tall blades tend to do that too. I guess if it were a thin skinned carving pumpkin I'd say Centofante3 or a Chaparral. Maybe a Yojimbo if you can get away with just the tip. For the most part I actually tend to prefer those cheapy s...

Re: Is there a theoretical limit to the properties of high carbide steels where cemented carbides begin to make more sen
Yes you would think that if carbides are so difficult than the absence of them should be amazing. I have a piece of Uddelholm Caldie, it is the essentially the "Matrix" of 4V but without the carbides. Well, this unfortunately has its own set of problems. So in the end, we can't have pure ...

Re: Is there a theoretical limit to the properties of high carbide steels where cemented carbides begin to make more sen
Is it more practical to have a single bevel chisel grind steel or ceramic with diamonds or other hard carbide’s impregnated/bonded to the one side so the only place the hard tiny nuggets are on the surface/cutting edge so that you don’t have the loss of toughness and have all the hard cutting micro...

Re: Is there a theoretical limit to the properties of high carbide steels where cemented carbides begin to make more sen
It’s an interesting question. I wonder what other metals might surpass iron and cobalt as matrices for binding super-hard micro particles. Metal matrix composites (MMC’s) have been developed for super strong engine blocks using aluminum as the matrix and for watch cases using gold as the matrix. In...

Is there a theoretical limit to the properties of high carbide steels where cemented carbides begin to make more sense?
As super steels become more super-er, chasing harder, finer, and more numerous carbides (15V is ~25% vanadium carbide) -- they seem to be approaching cemented carbide material in terms of edge retention, and perhaps fragility. In this particularly niche metallurgical realm, the matrix is a means to ...

Re: List Your Dream Spyderco
Really depends on what you mean by "Dream Spyderco". If you mean "realistically achievable within the material plane"? Magnacut Chaparral in pastel Terotuf with 4-way pocket clip. If you mean "dream" in the sense that we have cast off the shackles of euclidean geometry ...

Re: Apex Ultra!
Does Spyderco or the factories they work with have experience forging steel? Can bars of Apex Ultra be machined like a regular knife? If not, they'd have to invest in what I would assume is costly machinery to forge, or find a trusted third party to do it. Semi-related, but I've heard conflicting th...

Re: Cleansing the Vibe
I feel I may have tapped into a well of negativity in that Lil Temperance Price thread. It was my favorite thread from the past several weeks. Didn't consider the negativity to be extreme or obnoxious. I learned a lot about a knife I would never have noticed otherwise. If I were looking for a hard-...

Toucan this a stand up gesture that I really respect and hopefully a member who has left the Forum and will read this thread . I like and respect everyone here and shy away when things spin out of all reason . Ok ! My suggestion would be the Delica and Endura Exclusives at Knife Joy for those inter...
