There's a chance that the edge has thickened from all that sharpening. This happened to me with my black millie. I used it a lot at the farm I used to own and I sharpened a lot too. After almost a year, I found that I really couldn't get it as sharp as I used to be able to. When I finally got an ed...

Ferric chloride is used to etch PCB (printed circuit board). You can check shops that sells electronics component & tools.

Check youtube by srjoben. He did etching on some blades using it, and the cover he uses is nail polish/paint.

A painted surface is easily chipped & got abraded in daily use. More simple way is just burn the clip over stove. The resulting darkened clip will be ok for blue jeans! Search YT on how to do it, someone with nickname of 'arson'. Here's result on my knives. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8479/819...

Welcome! The important question would be what kind of mod do you need/want? What aspect you might want it improved? Polishing bevel is not only beautiful, but also making it cut better! Having a black blade limits your blade modding choice ;) Handle: do you like it as it is? What improvemwnt you want?

Jim,

Any particular reason to test HRC at that spot? I personally can't bring myself to look at it day in day out, but that's just me. ;)

Steve, good points. Even without heavy use I still touch up my blades, so it's always ready to shave with ;)

That perhaps because I only have 8Cr and AUS8. Perhaps ZDP189 will last longer?

Gordon, similarly, I carry multiple for that reason, use the other when one gets dulled.

Don,

I saw a YT by srjoben, mentioning a too narrow space for the pivot screw to rest/hold the handle slab. Do you find it true?

Interesting read and thanks! You sound like Phaedrus in "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" (my favorite book). :)

Cliff, It is always interesting watching your analysis. Please do share the result of the passaround, as it will be fun to know if a Hinderer truly outcut a Delica, and at what point the price differences will play a factor. You seem to be hesitant in regards to comparing it with the price factor as...

Pardon my ignorance. There seems to be a groove at the tang near pivot on one side. What it is for?

Just curious, how about handle ergonomics? Most spydies are countoured to be nice to the palm, but Valotton seems to be more straight in this regard?

I have same issue with Navy k611. Claimed to be 440c but some forum member over BF said it's actually 7Cr and sometimes badly heat treated (sub 50 HRC).

Not sure what mine is, will try microbevelling it with 1000 grit an no stropping.

Thanks for sharing tips!
