I've handled both before and owned many Kershaws in the past. They just never seemed to work well for me. I always had problems getting the pivots just right so they would open smoothly and the torsion bars always broke. They are decent knives but the Manix 2 (which I EDC now) is not even a close co...

My SAK Soldier is my airplane knife. It's legal pretty much everywhere and it was only $25 so no big loss. It goes in checked baggage and so far so good.

Really on a knife it is just there to look pretty, I'm pretty sure it's a fairly low stress application for CF. It has been used in areospace applications for decades now and you don't see planes dropping out of the sky because their CF gave way. I know from my background racing bikes that it will w...

Shark skin :) When I was younger I would deckhand for my Dad who was a commercial fisherman. Occasionally a small shark would get hooked on the line while trying to steal some fish. My Dad would take the gutting knife and stab it a few times then throw it back, the other sharks smell the blood and c...

Awesome!! I love picture stories like this. Would love to do some similar things with my boy when he get's older. Don't underestimate the importance of what you are doing. Most of my fondest memories of being a kid involve hiking or fishing with my Dad, I love those times and am so happy he took the...

The Dodo was Eric's first design. He also engineered the ball bearing lock for the model. It was created to be small powerful general purpose cutting tool. BTW, there is a sprint run in-the-works that I heard yesteday was getting closer. sal Good to here it's still on the table. I was admiring Eric...

I wouldn't mind picking up an orange one. I have a Phoenix, and the ball lock is a nice display or talking piece, but I find it to be more difficult to unlock. Maybe with a model like this, where if it locks it shouldn't come unlocked, that might be a plus. Really? I actually find it easier to grip...

Thoughts on the Dodo (Where is that orange one??)

I just purchased a blue PE Dodo NIB the other day. I've wanted one for a long time and finally found one. Here is a pocket dump pic I took today: http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc118/FLYBYU44/_IGP5936.jpg So what was the ultimate purpose of the Dodo? I bought it because I think it's a hopelessly...

The only Manix I have owned is a CHP version, I love it personally. It never rusts, holds an edge for a long time and is decently easy to sharpen. I've used it as my EDC knife for several months now.

I meant to post this on February 14, but haven't had time to take any pics. So Feb. 14 2011, 100 years of service for the 1911. Figured that was worth a thread. So lets see them. Took a quick pic to start things off. http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j94/dm_gangl/DSC02398.jpg DM Being form Canada w...

Very nice truck. My Dad's work bought him one just like that for a plow truck, except his is a manual 4 speed trans. Dad loves the thing, but it isn't a speed demon by any stretch. :)

SS Balance

So when is this going to come out? I totally didn't like the CF model. It has CF scales, and a liner lock both things I don't care for. The SS Balance looks super cool, and has the tiny RIL lock as well. Should be a perfect watchpocket knife. Plus it is supposed to be cheaper than the CF version.

A Street Beat style blade on a folder would make a wicked folding Bowie. Even retain the small hole vs a large Spydie hole. Maybe make it a swing guard (those are so sexy). Just thinking out loud. :)

The SS Balance is a must have, very nice. The Tuff is intresting, but I would have to let it grow on me. The Vallaton (SP?) is very sexy, wish they would use more of that polished g-10.

I wear a size 10 glove generally, and I never felt the Street Beat needed a bigger handle. Actually out of a wide range of small fixed blades I've owned it fits my hands the best.

They are for the steel insert on the end of the Ti lockbar, similar design to the Ti millie, prevents the lockbar from wearing prematurely.

You're right Deacon, I'm not sure why I said nested liners. I guess I've been staring at the Military too much. I was thinking of skeletonized liners, not nested. I wouldn't think they would add too much to the cost. They shouldn't add to the cost too much for skeletonized liners, just a few extra ...

I would be totally up for a sprint or a completely new run! Though I wouldn't want to "ruin" such a classic with FRN/G10/CF, it has always had metal handles and so it should stay! It is after all THE first Spyderco knife. Steel upgrade is ok, I'm fine with VG10. My preference would be SS,...
