Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

I'm carry a Para 3 today... Well, at least it used to be a Para 3, not really sure what to call it now. Perfection I suppose.

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

That's super interesting! I always kind of figured that the same spring material was used for each offering (other than the Salt series).

Re: Native 5 salt is Magnacut?

Thanks for the insider look Sal! It’s crazy hearing how much bringing a high quality knife to the market entails.

If cost wasn’t in the equation, would using the same material for the lock and blade be ideal, or are there hidden issues with that?

Re: SAGE Series

This is easily my favorite Sage, and I don't see anything unseating it in the near future. M4 steel and sidecut, seafoam Micarta scales. :D I was a little shocked, and absolutely surprised when I took this thing apart. It's a tank! So well built! I was very happy to see that Spyderco decided to use...

Re: Spyderco 2022 Lists: Delivered & Upcoming

Yea, it was kind of weird today. I’m pretty sure the site was getting hammered, lol. It showed as “Coming Soon!” until about 8:02. Then it switched to out of stock. Then it popped up as in stock at around 8:04. The site was hanging the whole time. You just gotta be patient with it. Looks like there ...

Re: Magnacut in Seki Salts

The diversity of steels offered by Spyderco and the fact that they're not going to offer it until they are certain that they've gotten the most out of a commercial heat treat they can possibly do is just one of the many reasons I have confidence in Spyderco products. The fact that Sal, Larrin, and ...

Re: Magnacut in Seki Salts

I’m really finding 63 - 64 to be MagnaCuts sweet spot. I’ve had it heat treated as high as 66hrc and as low as ~61hrc, following protocols laid out by Devin and Larrin. The ease of sharpening at all hardness levels was a really nice surprise. :) Well you can reach 63-64 with different protocols, so...

Re: Magnacut in Seki Salts

It's not a matter of warping. And it's not sensitive as to problems. It's a matter of finding the best balance for corrosion resistance, edge holding and toughness. sal Ah, copy that. My bad. I appreciate Spyderco spending so much time perfecting the heat treat (especially since it will be featured...

Steve (Boomer52) is still making scales. He just has a lot of projects going on so you have to pique his interest with your build, lol. I know that he had an interest in seeing how SureTouch machines. I bet he’s probably be interested in making a set of Delica scales out of SureTouch if you provide...

Re: Magnacut

I'm personally not really in the Magnacut hype camp, edge retention numbers seem lower than even S30V. Correct. S30V has better edge retention than MagnaCut. However, Magnacut is ~3x tougher than S30V with a much more stable edge... Which means you can take MagnaCut much thinner than S30V while kee...

Re: Mystery Knife Center exclusive coming 6/23 (S90V/burlap micarta Shaman)

I guess I shouldn't post the picture of my customized SpydieChef opening up a tin-plate can of beans while camping I suppose, lol. Any knife of mine that ends up a safe queen gets sold or given away. Collecting non-users just kind of lost it's luster to me when I realized I was storing them in a saf...

Re: Mystery Knife Center exclusive coming 6/23 (S90V/burlap micarta Shaman)

What’s wrong with information being parroted when it comes from a well respected, accurate source? If I’m going to buy a folder with with .14” blade stock, it’s because I’m going to beat the crap out of it. S90V is not a tough steel by any means. https://knifesteelnerds.com/2020/09/28/s90v-and-s125...

Re: Mystery Knife Center exclusive coming 6/23 (S90V/burlap micarta Shaman)

The only thing wrong with it is it builds preconceived notions of things that may occur in situations that are unlikely to be encountered by most people. That’s definitely fair. I work in a warehouse and cut tons of cardboard, poly wrap, and polyester/nylon strapping on a daily basis, so my views c...
