Re: Is your interest in sharpening on the same level as your interest in knives?

Dislike sharpening. There should have been this option on the poll: “No. I try to buy knives faster than they dull.”

Re: A copper spyderco

I’d buy a copper bolstered spydie! It’d go with my SS (Kris), titanium (sage 4), and brass (Schempp Bowie).

Indeed. Good people standing up to bad does not mean taking unnecessary risk. If you can avoid, do so. If you can exit, do so. If you can deescalate, do so.

Re: Who are the best comedians you actually saw their act in person?

Dave Chapelle, this would have been 2002. I absolutely couldn’t breathe and all of the material felt new.

Lewis Black was pretty good, he had some interesting topical stuff because he went to UNC (he was performing at UMD, both were in the ACC at that time), but much of the rest I had heard before.

Re: Interesting but creepy: China introduces world's first Artificial Intelligence News Anchor

China is paying Google to develop AI for them. I call it treasonous. This is precisely the point I just made. YOU call it treasonous, and maybe 90% of the population would as well, but it's not currently defined as that. We have ITAR which very stringently regulates weapons information transfer to ...

Re: Interesting but creepy: China introduces world's first Artificial Intelligence News Anchor

I've been doing a lot of reading on "artificial intelligence" ( A I) for the past two years or so. One interview that I found compelling was one done with TESLA executive Elon Musk. He stated that he went to the Whitehouse and warned President Obama when he was still in office about the p...

Re: Best Defense in attempted mugging/assault?

I'm going to follow Mr. Miyagi's advice: "don't be there." Buddy of mine, years ago, use to call it "tactical avoidism" and it's been my first line of defense for years. These days especially, anyone wanting to accost me would have to do it in the kind of places where such attac...

Re: Taxes on online knife purchase

Or are you talking the latest jump in tariffs ? The tariffs. Many of these are not a jump, they are new taxes on the American people. What are they paying for? We are already seeing the effects in some areas of my business. We are a long way from “read my lips, no new taxes”. Wasn't that line follo...

Re: Investments

I'm kind of surprised that none of you have mentioned precious metals or strategic metals as an investment  One of my uncles did pretty well in that category. And there are all kinds of commodities/options strategies that are available. There are now some very interesting mutual funds in ...

Yea obviously it's not guaranteed to but simple index funds beat 2.5% all year. Although I guess if you wanted to have cyclical liquidity like the system you were talking about it could be useful. Like if for some reason you want the cash you just don't buy back into the T-bill ladder. As you mentio...

Re: Strange Speculation: Intelligent Energy Beings.

I don't believe that life has to exist in the ways we here on Earth understand it to be. I believe there may well be life in forms that we don't or can't understand. The universe is a big place and we understand very very little about it. This reminds me of Blood Meridian (like most things do)... T...

Re: Steels: Extreme Edge Strength

It's kind of funny. The steels that both Jim Ankerson and Cliff Stamp advocate for are basically the opposite of what spyderco tapped them for. Stamp wants high edge stability, yet Stamp said that Maxamet is a good choice for knives even though Maxamet is kind of contrary to his normal position. Sp...

Re: Steels: Extreme Edge Strength

My idea was to compare steels used in Spyderco folding knives against each other. I understood, I was just saying that if there was some sort of ultimate optimum steel which would resist all edge deformation, which would basically be blunting, then everyone would already be using it for knives, sin...

Re: Steels: Extreme Edge Strength

Search “edge stability” and read Larrins article. This question isn’t easily answered, if it was all makers would be using the same steel with the same geometry. Also subjective terms like “extreme abuse” aren’t rigorous enough to comment on. No metal is indestructible, so there is some point where ...
