Re: China and tariffs
I don't have good answers, but this is how I see things... Not sure who said this but, politically the ability to do good is limited, whereas the ability to do bad is unlimited. No one is listening to each other. People are feeling left out. The sentiment is that if something doesn't work, let's go...

Re: China and tariffs
BODOG, Yeah, buy quality and buy it once and have it last instead of cheaping out and having to replace it a number of times, actually spending MORE in the long run. You are correct though about England etc, they have house/building that have been standing for a 1,000 years. Same with Japan and som...

Re: Sal, Can we get CPM 15v?
Agreed. I've a good stash of Austrialian coolibah, mallee, myrtle and various other gum. Bad thing - I allergic to their dust, especially fine dust after 320 grit sanding. Yeah, beauty itch :) Cordia Burl. I bought a large 2" thick chunk from Gilmerwood back in 2014. btw - my 15v paring is 1 o...

Re: China and tariffs
"Most big problems today are global. With global landscape" One of the reasons for making things in China is lower cost of production. Not just so profits are higher but because the consumer is forever chirping "cheaper, cheap, cheaper"! )On that subject I do think the majority ...

Re: Sal, Can we get CPM 15v?
I've been preaching 15V for some time. It's quite good when put into proper context. I wouldn't want a chopper out of it, likewise a kitchen knife, but for edc all purpose knives, it could do very well for a lot of people. I use mine as an all purpose fixed blade and keep it in context and it is imp...

Re: China and tariffs
I'm not one to think I can tell a successful businessman how to run the business he made very successfully. I will say the President is correct in doing what he is doing and I hope he goes much further. Not to force me to only buy American goods but to try to even the playing field. Too many genera...

Why and how did people know about dinosaurs prior to the renaissance? they didn't  "Later, in 1822, large teeth discovered in England by Mary Ann Mantell and her husband, Gideon, were thought to be the remains of a huge and extinct iguana. It wasn't until 1841 that British scientist ...

Re: Which strop compound(s)?
For years I've primarily used a 3000 mesh diamond compound to finish any sharpening stone. If i finish with a 400 or a 1200 grit stone, i finish on the 3000 mesh compound. If i want a certain blade above 3000 mesh, then i go above 3000 mesh with higher mesh compounds. But i rarely do that. Usually i...

Re: Hello Spyderco Forum
Hello Spyderco Forum. New Guy here. Been Carrying Knives & Guns as tools for a long time. Since 2007 I been a Spyderco guy and carrying a Black Delica 4 Saber Grind. Don’t let anyone tell you the Delica 4 with a sub 3 inch blade can’t handle the job. Great tough knife in a small, compact light ...

Re: Rockwell Hardness is the Megapixels of Knife Specs
I've always believed that for a rough edc knife some amount, say 10 to 15%, of retained austenite was a good thing, if only to retain some raw toughness. Not for stupidity's sake, but just to keep things together better at the edge.

Re: Sal's Casual Bombshell Thread
Thanx Marius, Spencer, Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. In fact the word that forumites have coined to describe the way Spyderco knives look is "fugly". sal I wouldn't call them fugly. I'd call a lot of them functionally aesthetic. Maybe functionally stuck? I dont think peo...

Re: 1095 Carbon Steel question.
. Let me ask you this: If 1095 does start to rust, and get corrosion spots, what do you all recommend to get rid of that and polish it back to a satin finish, if it came with a satin finish originally? Sand, spit, and rocks. I'm serious. If you have a knife with 1095 (or any other non-stainless ste...

Re: For SEF: Best All Around Shotgun
My personal loadout, right or wrong, is an 1100 semi-auto with the first two rounds being 3" magnum 00 with the rest of the tube being low recoil slugs and then 3" magnum slugs in the saddle. My thinking is if I find myself in a SHTF scenario I'd probably want to engage within 25 yards, if...

Re: For SEF: Best All Around Shotgun
I stick with the 870 personally. I have a Model 870 Express Tactical, the one that comes with Ghost Ring sights and extended magazine. 18.5" barrel. Can always change the choke tube to a full or Modified and or barrel if a longer one is needed. (I don't need a longer barrel personally) I use 0...

Re: Best Defense in attempted mugging/assault?
Bodog, I wish it was like you said: I would like to see the everyday folks fight back to the point where the predatory types are too afraid to attack people because they are afraid the citizens will turn them into dead pulp. Imagine if society was like that and the assailiants realized that they wo...

Re: Best Defense in attempted mugging/assault?
I totally agree with what "Bodog" just stated. Because in my situation I shared with you all for instance the option of "running away" was just not an option at all. When you've got a handgun pointed at you not knowing whether or not it is for real or it is a bluff as I think it...

Re: Best Defense in attempted mugging/assault?
In this type of situation, what is the best thing to do to protect yourself? You are walking alone whether in an urban or rural setting and you notice an individual who was loitering in the vicinity, immediately begin to follow you, and even at a fast-paced angle in your direction, and you sense an...
