I purchased 5 different UKPK this past year. 2 were serrated 3 were plan edge. All of these knives were given as gifts. I inspected each one before giving. All of them were sharp and free of defects. I prefer the plain edge knives, but the serrated blades make a great tool for certain individuals.

I have been giving the UK Pen knife with plain edge blade to kids this last year. So far not one of them have had the blade close on a finger. When I gift the knife I give them a little carving lesson (rooster or hen) and we usually cut up an apple together to share.

Maybe the blade on my knife drops deeper into the handle. If I sharpened my knife until the point was sticking out to catch on things it would be very thick behind the edge.
