Good choice on the Calypso Jr., Rico. I forgot that you're going there on a medical mission and not to fight a war. However, be aware that your original mission could easily turn into a survival situation--where a larger folder would be advantageous. It brings to mind the adage: Better to have a lar...

A CF Police with the same finish as the CF Civilian is fine with me. It seems as though the graphite weave is sealed with a clear coat. Imo, I think that the CF handled Civilian would feel better as an EDC than the G10 version. (If I were to carry the Civilian daily). Would make my pockets last long...

I would look for a knife with qualities in the following order of importance: 1. Most rust resistant blade/hardware: knife maintenance may not be possible for days. 2. Combo edge (partially serrated) blade: in addition to slicing up food, etc. the serrations would come in handy for cutting rope and ...

Sal, you listed that the current trend will find folders falling in 4 categories. Missing is the medium-sized (average size 3.5"?) utility folder. I find it hard to believe that this category will diminish when, ironically, it is the logical direction knife trends should move towards. Rant: On ...

If you want to be different, then this is the knife to pull out of your pocket when the need arises. Very unusual blade and handle with its unique cutouts. It is a very light carry--you'll probably forget that it's in your pocket. Because there's so little metal sometimes I wonder if a metal detecto...

Hi Tay7118 and welcome. Some people prefer to keep the scratches as it gives the knife some "character." Each scratch has a story behind it and its nice to recall the experiences from time to time. Think about it: if you polish a scratch out and keep using the knife, you'll only scratch it...

I like the concept and design of the SpyderCard; however, I find it too heavy for my liking as an EDwalletC. A titanium (or almite) handle version with a VG-10 blade would be nice. As an alternative, you might want to check out the UtiliKey (I think that's what it's called). It's a tool that looks l...

Nice score wingville. The Standard was one of my first knife purchases (I bought it together with a Delica). Now you need to find a G-10 Harpy (a hawkbill that is about the same size and is similarly constructed as the Standard) to complete the brother/sister set.

Hi ATE. Don't get discouraged. The Merlin is a nice EDC for general use and, imo as a layperson with no martial arts/self defense skills, is underrated as a SD piece. This advice is only worth the price you paid me for it. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I lik...

I agree with Big-Target. Perhaps, this time, with the combination of hawkbill and clip point blades, things might be different. I personally felt that the blades of the original Dyad were too similar functionally--i.e., it did not give me an advantage over a single combo (plain/serrated edge) blade ...

Dyad w/Harpy & Delica Blade

While using my Merlin today, I was thinking to myself about the usefulness of this blade. The only difficulty I encounter with this hawkbill design is when I need to slice things (like steak, sandwiches, pizza, etc.). Then it hit me. I need a Dyad-type (two blade) Spyderco with a hawkbill and a flat...
