Mesquite can be very attractive but also tends to be heavy. Nice thing is it is usually pretty hard. Looking forward to your results. I'll be ordering some standoffs and screws this weekend and hope to start carving some wood scales soon.
I did once. It was a legit vendor that was out of stock on their website but still had the item listed on Amazon with shipping included. Since it was a dealer I bought from before, I ordered and got the item faster than if I had ordered from their website. But generally, I prefer to buy through one ...
I've have good but not great experiences with it. Compared to SE H1, I experienced worse edge holding, toughness and corrosion resistance. Sharpening response was pretty similar. Teeth points more likely to roll VS H1. Compared to PE 8Cr improved edge retention like you'd expect. It isn't a bad ste...
Jim, I carried that knife a lot as a kid up until I went off to college. I skinned more than a few rabbit and squirrel with it. The friend that gave it to me is now dead so, even though I don't carry it much, I drag it out from time to time to remember him by. It is still scary sharp and easy to sha...
I started out at around 7 or 8 with hand me down folders and was given a Buck 110 by my Dad's wife when I was 13. A few years later my best buddy gave me an Old Timer folder: https://i.imgur.com/AVt2fzt.jpg Usually carried one or the other in a back pocket next to my wallet. Working in an Office and...
Makes me wonder if I really want a Maxamet blade now? If not, what is the next best alternative? Why not? Mine cuts like crazy regardless of the tiny pinholes My only real concern, especially after seeing the pic with pits on the edge, was what if those pits appear on the apex? Though, none appear ...
Yesterday was my Birthday and all day long my youngest boy was super excited to give me my present. After dinner, they busted out the Peach Pie, we don't do cake, lol, and they handed me a nice red Spyderco bag :spyder: . Inside was a Native 5 Spy27. Love it. The color is awesome and it cuts pie lik...
Despite voting for an FRN Chaparral, my next purchase is likely to be a Maxamet Native 5. I got it in my head that I need a "super steel" blade. Of all the knives available, the Native best suits my needs.
This is a timely post. I recently rediscovered an old SS Byrd Robin SE that was badly worn. I got a decent tip on it but the serrations were still fairly dull. I stopped by the SFO yesterday and while shopping had the edge repaired. Better than new! Worth the price if like me you suck at sharpening ...
After looking at the Maxamet version today, I have determined to acquire one. Also looked at the Para 3 and was very impressed but the Native would see far more pocket time so will most likely get the nod. Hope to pick one up next week. Decided on Maxamet over S110V which was also available.
:D https://i.imgur.com/dGketiQ.jpg Some one was fortunate! :spyder: Super fortunate! One for me to play with and one to save for my son who was born almost a month ago. :) Sweet, doubly fortunate indeed. I was able to get each of my sons a #29. Our summer project will be to make handles for them.
