Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

I've been looking for something along the same lines. I wanted a fixed blade small enough I can comfortably carry it daily, robust enough I can carve and baton wood, and preferably uncoated carbon steel so I could do a patina for something different. This one is at the top of my list. https://www.c...

I would recommend this. I carry one every day. Mines in elmax.
It is sooo pretty. How’s the thinner stock against what you use it on?

Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

I personally see no reason to spend more money on a knife than I have to. The Cold Steel Mini Pendleton Hunter in 3V would be a great choice and you can take the strap portion of the sheath off and pocket carry it. I often carry an Esee Izula in my pocket and sometimes on my belt. This knife comes ...

Re: Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

My digging has turned up three options so far, but I'd love to learn about some different ones. Option 1: Bark River Ultra Lite Bushcrafter - not currently available Option 2: Bark River Featherweight Fox River - is the blade sturdy enough for carving? The handle suggests this is designed as a slice...

Thanks for the suggestions. The Muela style is a bit busy for my tastes. I am a fan of the puukko style though!

Re: Calling all Canadians - Canadian knife discussion

Canada is pretty diverse in landscape and culture so it’d be pretty hard to capture it in one model. I wouldn’t mind seeing a line up of fixed blades for ocean and forest, and a pair of folders for urban and rural use. All four would feature red g-10 with white liners (or vice versa, or combo’d with...

Recommendation: companion fixed blade for piggy back

I got a Dark Timber Honey Badger (gen 2)! It's pretty big (not quite a full on chopper but still definitely a knife) and very agile for its size, but I think it needs a little buddy along for the ride when out hiking/camping. Preferences: Blade length: 2.5" - ~3" Blade thickness: no more t...

Re: Picking a new EDC fixed blade

I like the look of the Landi EDC! I recently came across the Manly Patriot , but I don't know about its availability. and it's a bit larger and the blade is a bit thicker than you've specified. Personally, I've been contemplating between the BRKT Featherweight Fox River and the Ultra Lite Bushcrafte...

I can't say I've done any of this before, but I've come across some great videos on the topic. Re: Reinhold Rhino Update

Thank you for the kind words, Chris. :) I know what you mean concerning the upswept tip. However, the way the handle was designed helps to position the tip of the blade closer to the midline—almost to a negative angle. It’s kind of difficult to explain, but if you get a chance to hold one, I think ...

Re: In search of a real kitchen folder

Looks nice! But from extensively using my Manixe's in the kitchen I find that a blade in the 3.5" region comes sometimes short, especially to cut some fruits / vegetables on the large side. I don’t disagree. Even 5” feels short to me for kitchen work. Folding knives are, by definition, a serie...

Re: Tip up or down from the factory, why?

From the January 2016 Spyderco Byte: A Deeper Look at Pocket Clips Since Spyderco pioneered the concept of mounting a pocket clip on a folding knife 35 years ago, clips have come a long way. We have also learned a lot about how to make clips work best on knives of various styles, sizes, and handle m...

No problem, Strider! Welcome to the forums!

And thanks, abbazaba/rybu0305! I agree with abbazaba about the weight as well. For me, there are weight tiers that just sort of feel the same/negligible in pocket and in hand.

Gayle Bradley 2 + Gareth Bull Small Kalos riding shotgun in the coin pocket, which let me choose between big/prolonged cutting, or little snippities for non-knife people.

I think it's a great handle shape and style for any stout or longer work knife. I don't mind the thin slabs for small out-and-in office slicers.

Re: Benchmade 940

The Taichung made knives are hand sharpened still as far as I know. It's only the new Golden models that are robo-sharpened. My GB2 was slightly uneven. My 940-1 was super uneven not just in the sharpened bevel grind where it was somewhat wavy, but the whole primary grind was so asymmetrical that th...
