Re: Spyderco knife mods

Put a new clip on my mini Swayback. Was getting hotspots w/ the first clip (a modded Southard clip), so redrilled for an RGT milled one - hotspots gone, feels really good.

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

Had my Police 4 IWB today. Was excited to test out the fresh edge. Going back to the Pacific 2 tomorrow. Noticed rust forming on the blade after four hours . Wonder if this is only due to "different chemical sweat composition" or maybe more a combination of sweat and the general climate o...

Re: Mini Chef chop

Random question, but what tap and die set do you use? For clip redrilling/tapping I use a #50 bit and 2-56 tap, except for ti handles - works better to use a slightly bigger bit, like a #49 or 5/64". The ti gets all 'gummy' and binds/breaks taps like craze (for me at least) w/ the standard #50...

Re: Mini Chef chop

Thanks for the kind words Spyderco familia! I always want to ask, how do you chop the blade? Grinding it all off with belt sander is kinda time consuming. Saw is out of option on hardened steel. Angle grinder generates too much heat. How do you do it? If it is not a trade secret :D I just use a drem...

I look forward to seeing what you have lined up for your next chop. Thanks Cambertree! I have a Spydiechef on the way that's gonna be chopped next week, and have been meaning to chop a Kapara forever now. Probably in a week or two... Looks Great! Is is a 3" blade now? Thanks Gullwing! Y...

Re: Mini Swayback chop

Yup, very impressive as always! Thanks for sharing. Thanks so much BFK, much appreciated brotha! Very fine work, as always, Digdug. I’m curious as to whether the balance point of the knife changes much after you do your chops? I guess, as you take material both off the blade and the rear of the han...

Re: Mini Swayback chop

Thanks for the kind words folks, I really appreciate it! Nice! I was hoping you'd find a way to put a wire clip on it lol Thanks SG - me too, but cutting those precise notches is beyond my skills right now! Did you leave the cutout bare Ti, or did you refinish it somehow? Thanks Big50, I refinished ...

Mini Swayback chop

Just finished this last night - 3" blade, 4" handle. Widened the cutout, and added a thumbramp to it. Clip is modified from a Lum Chinese folder. Then stonewashed/oxi-darkened and flame ano'd the clip/hardware. https://i.imgur.com/UB1Bdcd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/cBddzcj.jpg https://i.imgur...

Re: Swayback Lookout Thread

I just finished chopping mine down to 7" OAL, and widening the access cutout, w/ a ramp to the cutout. Adding the clip tomorrow, but can't decide which. I'll post pics in the next couple days once it's done.

Re: How about a mini manix 2?

Very cool, looking forward to the pics! :) Since it is a "chopping job" and you certainly will (have to) shorten the handle, "your" Mini Manix most certainly will be more like "version 2" (which I personally prefer) in my previous posts, so at the rear end more Sage-/C...

Hey, I just got a chop commission for a Manix2 coming in soon, so I'll be posting pics of a mini Manix next week. I'll be studying this thread for different ideas of where to take it...
