Stefan_Wolfs's Spyderco, Problem Logging In To Forum

The YouTuber Stefan_Wolf bought a Paramilitary, and when he recieved it there were some questions he had to see if it was a genuine Spyderco. He is in Eastern Europe. He posted this on the Towards 0.1 Mircon because he had trouble logging into the Spyderco forum. Here is a link to his issues with pi...

Re: S30V Only Cool if it's a Benchmade?

S30V is a great steel, so is VG-10. To be honest, however, I'll take any steel suitable for cutlery.

Re: Tanto PM2 Support Thread

The PM 2 Tanto looks awesome. I was thinking of an American Tanto Delica and Endura to go along with the work themed Wharncliffed blades, the American Tanto can be an EDC themed blade. I like it better in the PM series, a Para 3 Lightweight Tanto would be an awesome EDC.

Re: POLL: More DLC low chromium steels?

Great turnout, the vote is super close. I wish I had specified 2 versions of the "No" vote: 1) No, I don't think DLC is effective 2) No, I just prefer the looks of uncoated blades It would have provided a better representation of the community's overall stance. I think also working in or ...

Re: POLL: More DLC low chromium steels?

Did I get that right? DLC does not aid in corrosion resistance? Nope, rust comes right through the DLC. It's a hotly debated topic, but the pictures don't lie. DLC is for preventing light reflection during combat situations. ^This...I voted no. Either let the steel patina or use oil and keep it dry...

Re: What's the lowest edge retention steel you'd carry?

I don't mind 420J2/3Cr13. If you learn to sharpen a knife, it changes how you look at steels and knives. The better your sharpening abilities, the more you can get out of a knife and a steel. All steels have their use. I remember I had a knife, a Pakistani Buck 110 clone that my father had gotten my...

Re: Steel Testing YouTube Videos

Sal, That's what I have heard also, that they are good sharpeners. I have seen videos of them sharpening and read about the guidelines they use for the edges they desire. So the nicks were coming from when they were sharpening the blades? I have had a similar thing happen with micro-chipping using 1...

Re: Steel Testing YouTube Videos

Sal,
Thinking more about what Steve said, were he saw honing steels being used with pressure, do you think that could have an influence in use? What about for sharpening if that was part of the sharpening process with the MBS 30 Chalif knives? If the steel was fatigued that could explain a lot.

Re: Steel Testing YouTube Videos

Sal, Do you know how the Chalif knives were being sharpened? I've worked in the kosher certification industry before, but not in any meat processing or kosher slaughtering. If I recall, each knife has to pass a certain set of tests, but how the knives are sharpened sometimes differs from individual ...

The 52100 vs 154cm video is great. It is amazing how the steels rank when you measure to high sharpness.

Re: Steel Testing YouTube Videos

Carbide tear out during wear is a real thing, this is how medium to high carbide steels wear, by chipping. It is a completely different matter to say that you sharpened a knife and had carbide tear out due to abrasive used. This is what is in dispute, not that it cannot happen, it can, it is just ra...

Re: Steel Testing YouTube Videos

As far as carbide tear-out goes, on the Wicked Edge Forum as well as BladeForums, the pictures shown are not showing carbides tearing out, but the deeper gouges of were the abrasive first digs into the steel and starts the scratch. You can follow these down to the edge. Todd Simpson of Science of Sh...

Re: Sal asks you to design a Spyderco.

Hi Jason, Thanx for the response. All of what you say makes sense except for the round handle. So I guess How round is round is the question? We have found that when a folder takes up too much pocket real estate or is too "round", sales suck. sal sal, Not that round. Round enough to be co...

Re: Sal asks you to design a Spyderco.

Hi Jason, Would you please explain your "thinking" on this concept? Why? sal Sal, Sure. A blade that will have high performance in cutting. Thin behind the edge, doesn't have to have not very thin stock, high edge angle (closer to a zero grind). A round, larger handle with either a palm s...
