Re: If laws and public perception were no issue, would you carry a different knife?

There are a few knives with 3.6" blades that I would carry sometimes if there were not a 3.5" blade length limit where I live. Otherwise, things would not change a whole lot as I tend to favor knives in the 3-3.5" range anyway.

Re: Reveal 15: Shivering with Anticipation

I'm still waiting for a MagnaCut UKPK to use as my summer cycling knife. No need to rush into another reveal, number 14 alone has a whole pile of knives that haven't made it to the wild yet.

Re: Questions about maintenance/sharpening

Sharpmaker and a 10x loupe is a great starting point. I have a Belomo loupe, and it suits my needs just fine. Eventually you may want to add the diamond or CBN rods to your sharpmaker to repair very dull or damaged edges, but the basic kit is just fine for starting off and maintaining edges. Eventua...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

They say it's going to be a snowpocalypse here tomorrow, so I did important stuff today like changing the oil in my pickup and making sure my tractor was in working order. 15V Paramilitary 2 was along for the fun.

Re: EDC recommendation: Native 5 LW – S30V or SPY27?

SPY27 is an excellent steel for a beginner at sharpening, and it's great in use also. If you're willing to spend a little extra on it, I do recommend going with SPY27 personally.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

It's a poor craftsman who doesn't see the flaws in his own work. It's what drives us to continue, to improve. If we ever achieved perfection, it would be the end. Learning stops, life becomes boring. I've definitely found that continuous learning is a key to a more fulfilling life. But I'd love to ...

Re: I don't give a #@$! about stainless

Having a stainless steel that is the ballpark equivalent of M4/4V is pretty awesome if you ask me... but that's just, like, my opinion. I love what the crazy cool tool steels like 15V and K390 do, but I also love the worry free performance of a stainless steel like MagnaCut for certain situations. D...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Oh stop it!! You're edges are some of the best I've ever seen around here, especially always being done free hand. I've seen worse from fixed sharpening systems around here (myself included) It's ok to toot your own horn haha. Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately I still see the flaws in my own...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

I don't worry too much about uneven bevels. I do try to keep them pretty close, but unless things get majorly uneven, and I mean really bad, a knife will still cut fine. The thinner you take an edge the more exaggerated any slight differences get, and I go thin so its rare I dont have at least small...

Re: Favorite Spydercos You Got in 2023 - In Your Pocket in '24

My favorite from 2023 was my 15V Paramilitary 2, because I'm a steel nerd and can't be stopped. My other favorite knife of 2023 was not a Spyderco.... it was my small Sebenza in MagnaCut blade steel with black micarta inlays. Both should get plenty of pocket time in 2024, there's really not much on ...

Thx yall! ...answered my question perfectly... Can't figure out why my previous response did not show up... Ya, I'm not interested in changing a blade out. I just wanted to get an earth tone on that black on black... More lare! The first few posts you make are "moderated" so won't show up...

Manix 2 in CPM 15V blade steel for a relaxed day at home (finally). Tomorrow promises to be another busy day, so I did my best to enjoy a slow day.

Re: What do you want to see at Shot Show 2024?

Talking Spyderco stuff specifically here: I'm hoping for a look at the BBB folder collab, of course! If there's any new sharpening stuff coming down the line (especially if there is some sort of replacement of the discontinued ceramic stones in the works), that would be very interesting to me also. ...

Re: New on board, hello and first question...

You won't be able to simply swap the scales. The liners on the CruCarta PM2 are the full width of the scales, but on G10 versions the scales are milled out with liners set into them. It may be possible to swap blades, but I don't tend to modify my knives in that way so others will have to chime in w...

Re: Your Ideal Folder for Hiking & Backpacking is....

I've experimented this over many years and tend to come back to the Paramilitary 2 or Para 3, though a small Sebenza gets a ton of pocket time on hikes also. Really, I just carry whatever my favorite folder is. I do only carry stainless on backpacking trips, though for day hikes if conditions allow ...

Re: Looking for input on next Spyderco.

The CruCarta Paramilitary 2 is always a solid choice. I don't carry knives larger than that much so don't have much to say about other larger options.
