Re: Grip tape, gun grips, and stippling

Hey, I had stippled the back of a lightweight manix to keep it from moving when I was using my thumb to unlock. I have put talongrips on polymer framed pistols and liked it (the rubber finish, not the sandpaper finish). Most recently I've just purchased a couple of sheets from guntape and cut the pa...

Re: Native question

There is a pic of the Native display at spyderco headquarters on mr blondes site and it shows a swedge less first gen frn native. Second from the top on the left side. Can't read the caption though and I doubt it was a regular production model.

Re: Just got my Manix 2 S110V but not happy.

I found that it was much easier for me to unlock my lightweight Manix after I added some texture to the smooth back of the handle. It kept the knife from trying to slide down with the force of the thumb push. After I did that I was able to unlock with just the thumb. I used a wood burning tool on on...

Re: Southard Positron (Ion) Status Check

Well I really like this knife. Great blade length. The very end is kind of sharp but the knife is so slim my hand doesn't rub against it when going into the pocket. My thumb or index fingers don't have an issue with the liner lock release and I like how the hole is rudimentary and not really usable....

Re: Opening the Positron

hmm hadn't even thought of that. I use the flipper but can also open it the same way as the new Mnandi. Pinch the hole between thumb and middle finger, start the rotation and finish the rotation with the thumb pad.

Re: Delica Appreciation

Love the Delica and the blade length is fine for what I do. I do prefer the width of the Endura handle though mainly for heavy cuts with a hammer grip, the Delica is too skinny for that.

Re: Is this dealer have a good rep. Newbee

My spydie addiction started with an FRN SE Endura I bought from cutleryshoppe in 1992. Dang those were some beautiful catalogs they used to send out.

Yeah I really like mine. I actually prefer the feel in the hand compared to my G10 N5 which I can't seem to like.

Re: Sage or Native...Your thoughts

The ti native can be easily closed one handed and the pattern in the handles is gorgeous. It will also hide wear much better. If you shop around they won't be too far apart in price. I've had both and kept the ti native.

Despite reading the forums almost daily somehow I missed the original announcement and just saw this thread. Thankfully they were still in stock, the Native 5 is my favorite lightweight! :)

Re: Native 5...why did it take me so long?

I use the choil unless I am holding the knife in a hammer grip then I grip behind the choil. My medium size hand fits there. Actually I'd be ok if the Native was choil-less and had a single guard like the Delica (but with less gap between edge and guard) and I prefer the wider handle over the Delica.

Re: grip technique for Sage

Depends, but most of the time I use a saber with finger in choil. If heavy pressure is required I switch to a hammer behind the choil. Change as needed as the others mention.

Re: Natives: Which is your favorite?

I've had the G10 and have a S110V/CF and FRN model. I prefer the FRN. The weight feels right for the blade length and the price is right. My only preference on the other models is the clip hole pattern - allows me to put in a low mount clip. But I get why the FRN model has a more robust clip.

Re: Is the Native 5 in FRN the perfect knife?

I do like the size, weight, value, handle shape. If the clip pattern was the same as the delica/endura/N5G10 then I could use one of my low mount clips - and then it would be perfect ;)

I have only had one in more than 50 Spydies and it was over 10 years ago. I bought a new Military online from a reputable dealer and I could close it with minimal hand pressure without intentionally moving the liner lock. Spyderco warranty fixed it.
