Re: Spyder hole - must it be visible with blade closed?

Which UKPK? In my experience, the G-10's spring is very strong, and the FRN UKPK's spring, very weak. Mine is G10. As I recall the FRN UKPKs did not have a full length backspring like the G10 versions and Spyderco had to modify the design by forking the spring to get more strength/resistance out of...

Re: ATTENTION SAL GLESSER tuff in for warranty, won't catra?

I think any "problems" in this case are differences that already exist among some people based on things that go back long before this thread was ever conceived. You did not create them so I'd urge you not feel any guilt for it. It gets boring pretty quickly when we focus too much on our i...

Re: Spyder hole - must it be visible with blade closed?

Interesting. My experience with the UKPK I've had for 6+ years is that it would never flick all the way open. Half way with optimal grip and strong force but no more. I only tried it a few times just to see how much resistance there was to that sort of action. The OP's situation where a locking knif...

Re: Spyder hole - must it be visible with blade closed?

I don't have a pingo to try it with, but this works with my Dragonfly, the Ladybug, and a Ti UKPK I owned very briefly. It should actually be be easier with the DK and Pingo, so I doubt this would be legally viewed as OHO. I'm not sure I'm clear on what you're saying here so please correct me if I ...

Re: Spyder hole - must it be visible with blade closed?

Can't answer about Spyderco's position on the visibility of the hole. Regarding your local laws though...what if you had a larger knife, say the Endura, where the hole was small like the DK or Pingo but there was still the significant portion of blade sitting out of the handle. You could grip that e...

Re: Anyone into "traditional" folders?

I got back into slipjoint and traditional folders a few ago. Camillus is my favorite make and I like looking for older pieces under the many different brand names and outside firms they supplied. Here's a quick shot of the current stable. On the left: 7 Camillus/Camillus-made. On the right: 5 Victor...

Re: Old Delica, curious about the packaging

Great snag, and nice bit of history! It's always cool to have some old school in the collection! May we ask what you gave for it? :D $33 to be precise. Nice find and great pics. Question though , is it still a First generation with the fat plastic clip? The first ones made have a narrow clip. One c...

Re: Spyder hole - must it be visible with blade closed?

I feel like a wet blanket but... Changing the line of the scales for purposes of covering the hole could have other knock-on effects. It figures to alter the grip, weight, and balance of the knife. How will this impact the knife's feel and usability in your hands? How will it fit and weigh in your p...

Re: Anyone into "traditional" folders?

I think those micarta models are more recent stock (past year and a half maybe?) so hopefully it will come with a better edge than many Queens used to have. You could practice sharpening for a loooooong time on some of their D2 knives.

Re: Old Delica, curious about the packaging

You are correct with your assumption that it was from a blister pack and from that time period. Okay, thanks. Guess I pass this round of Spydie-school. ;) I appreciate the comments. The guy I bought the Delica from also had a first generation Dragonfly with hollow ground blade in similar condition....

Re: Show off your latest purchase

Yup, I was extremely happy with the prices I paid, $125 for all of them! $30 each for the Santoku and the K02, and $35 for the bread knife. Passed on two SE K05, but might need to go back for those later on Very well bought I think. Congrats on those. I nabbed an old Delica today. G-2 marked blade....

Old Delica, curious about the packaging

I was at an antique fair today and found this first generation Delica. New old stock, never used. :) http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s247/jujigatame/Knives/Spyderco/Delica13.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s247/jujigatame/Knives/Spyderco/Delica14.jpg http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s247...

Re: Appreciation for XHP, KC exclusive Native, reprofiled

I would not mind if XHP became the standard choice. Never had anything but strong performance with my S30V blades from Golden but for the stretch of time I had a Manix2 in XHP I was very pleased with how it cut. I'm somewhat surprised the KC Native is still stocked almost a year later. Perhaps the b...

^^ How do you like the Kiwi 4? I was ready to order that last week but ended up going with the Des Horn instead.

This was perhaps the only forum I'm on that had not undergone any sort of major upgrade or changeover since I joined. Almost 7 1/2 years. Makes me realize how completely used to the old forum I had been. This all seems quite odd at the moment but I imagine it will be better for all parties going for...
