Re: Rice

Best rice I get is the Chimes Garden organic trio from Thailand. It's excellent, spendy & delicious if you can find it. Try an Asian market to see if they have some. This is the best rice I have ever eaten, firm, plump, nutty, it's just great rice.

Re: A rant about Tax- A long read...

Since the US government is now about $18 trillion in debt, please explain to me why I need to pay ANY taxes to them. They print the money they need, so paying taxes isn't necessary any more.

Re: Machete discussion

Condor actually makes a decent machete from 1075 carbon steel, the El Salvador I got is an 18" long blade (0.086" thick). They are decently made & seem to be pretty durable. I did sharpen mine on the 30" belt when it arrived, as I prefer a sharper edge than it came with. The plant...

Re: Newbie Question

I would agree that 30 degrees will be a good edge for most of your cutting. Especially starting out, just keep it simple & learn how it feels to get a good edge. Nothing wrong with running 30 degrees on most of your stuff to get the hang of things & how each blade feels in the hand and on th...

Re: Can you easily one hand a Dragonfly?

I only had a problem with closing it, once. I've been using larger blades (Delica & bigger usually for EDC) and got in the habit of using my index finger at the spine to push the blade(s) closed with my right hand. The blade on the ZDP DF is a lot shorter than the others. I did my usual close ma...

Re: Friction folder

I'm going to make a sheath for mine, as I do holsters already & pretty easy to do. I ordered mine without a sheath, but Michael makes them to go with the knives he makes.

Re: Friction folder

OK Doc, I just wanted something different for a pocket-carry, every-day use knife. The cutting edge is about 2 1/4", so it's pretty compact to carry & also very light & handy. It's surprisingly rugged, has no lock, no clip or frills at all. It takes two hands to open since there's no sp...

Friction folder

Got this in the mail yesterday, a nice little friction folder by Michael Morris. Nicely made & finished, plain vanilla, nothing fancy. Decided to re-profile it to 19 degrees per side. The edge he ships with is fairly thick compared to what I'm used to. Pretty hard steel, he says about 58 & I...

Enzo Elver in D2

Anyone else have one of these? I'm working on the scales for mine now. Just got it this weekend, doing ebony grips with purple heart accent strips & copper pins. It's a FFG & came fairly sharp from the factory, but there's always room for improvement. This is a D2 steel & at first I thou...

Re: Pet- Safe ways to get rid of ants ?

The reason boric acid works so well on insects in general is that it wipes out the flora & fauna in their digestive system. Ants live in a colony & are "groomers" as far as hygiene goes. As they clean each other, they spread the stuff from individual to individual. Boric acid isn't...

Re: man arrested (NY) for carrying a UK Pen Knife response

There are bad apples on all ends of the spectrum, political, social & economic. There are also good ones, but they aren't news-worthy. My wife came home yesterday and was shaking her head over one of her fellow employees. This is from a real conversation, no joke. There was a comment made about ...

Re: Pet- Safe ways to get rid of ants ?

Boric acid is about as toxic to mammals as common table salt. Mix boric acid powder with powdered sugar & leave it where the ants are feeding & pets won't get to it. It works on roaches & any other things which crawl through it & then eat the powder. Basically, it wipes out the gut &...

Re: Spyderco fixed blade?

I would second the idea of a Mule for a great, general purpose fixed blade. Food prep in the kitchen, outdoors for most uses & very handy in size. It isn't the biggest, thickest, strongest, toughest, pry-bar, screwdriver or multi-tool, whatever knife in the woods, but it's a great design & t...
