I do not like LC200N *rant*
I love my Waterway. I've used it extensively for the past year, from gutting fish/boar to batoning oak branches in the middle of the Carpathian Mountains, and I God **** love it! But I don't feel the love for this steel. There is NOTHING besides corrosion resistance that this steel brings to the tab...

Re: Polishing a stonewashed blade.
I can probably post a few pics, if anyone is interested. Pls do, I was inclined to do it but I was hesitant as I don't know how good the steel polishes or how hard it is to do. I have some 6 micron and 1.5 micron diamond compound available and a dremel so I might just do it if I like the look. Than...

Re: I Tested the Edge Retention of 48 Steels
I always thought s110v can hit 2-3hrc higher than s90v. TIL. Thx! Can't wait for some future tests and refinements you have in plan for these tests. Great data.

Re: I Tested the Edge Retention of 48 Steels
I've been following this for awhile on instagram/youtube, both from BBB and Larrin's perspectives. I could read these results on repeat for days, amazing. What's also amazing is how well s30v and s90v performed, and I'm honestly not surprised. In regard to s90v, I'm curios if the better performance ...

Indeed, for people that don't like high carbide steels, Rex 45 is the peak their should strive for. Amazing steel in a high polish edge.

Someone with the new PM2 in 10v, if they have the means, can they post some hardness measurements? Thanks!

Re: MAXAMET!
The thing that surprised me about this steel (besides wear resistance and edge retention, which I was expecting to be very high), was it's edge stability and toughness. I didn't manage to microchip it or damage the edge in any way in my day to day use. I don't abuse my knives, but I didn't give it a...

I would like it in S90V also. It's a great steel with Spyderco's ht.

Re: Regrinding Knives?
Thank you for the info! I’ve got a lot of older knives to practice on. If you really want to try this yourself, have a look at some youtube videos about it. Seeing how it's done will help way more than anything you'll find written anywhere and give you a mental foundation on how to start your trial.

Re: Regrinding Knives?
Either way, make sure you do these changes on some knives you don't care about first, or you might regret it.

Re: Regrinding Knives?
Regrinding knives is not an easy thing to do. It requires quite a bit of practice. Indeed, but practice has to start from somewhere. It isn't easy at first but not hard to learn. These cheap and low power grinders are a great start for a casual consumer. That is if he wants to learn, if not and mon...

Re: Regrinding Knives?
I use a small belt grinder, 1x30 belt 375w. Nothing fancy or expensive, just some German brand that had good reviews on Amazon, but if you're american it seems like the one made by Harbor Freight is very popular. You can find these made by different manufacturers and they're all in the range of 60 t...

Re: So what can you tell me about S45VN?
I believe S45VN can also attain a higher hardness, so besides having more carbides, the higher hardness will have an impact on the user's opinion on it. But of course, the regular user can see something in let's say CPM154 at 59hrc as performing better simply due to the fact that they just sharpened...

Re: Knife too thin
I appreciate a thin knife for its specialized utility, and I find them way more pleasurable to use (I hope one day I'll get a BBB Mini Trapper :D ). But for EDC use I generally like a bit of stiffness; everyday tasks with a knife don't involve just pure slicing, but also a lot of push cutting in wei...

Re: CBN vs Daimond SM rods?
Had both. CBN seems to cut "finer" than the diamonds, while both remove metal just as fast, if that makes any sense. I use the CBN exclusively since I like the edge finish more/get the knife to a more consistent sharpness. Can't go wrong with both, but I recommend the CBN based on my exper...

Re: Taking apart knives - part 2
I personally prefer screwed construction for reasons already mentioned, but I have no issue with pinned construction as long as no steel liners are used (for ex Manix LW Maxamet). Cleaning is a bit difficult but it can be done, so far I had no issues with rust in there at all and oil can easily be s...

Re: Can some steels be bad for our health ?
I think that knife maker confuses cobalt dust with iron alloy dust containing small amounts of cobalt. And even then, studies talk about chronic exposure to these dusts of cobalt, months, even years of daily exposure. The difference is day and night, it's kind of sad when such misconceptions are spr...

Re: Spyderco’s For Law Enforcement?
My uncle used several knives over the years as a cop from what we talked, but lately, thanks to me :D, he's a big fan of spyderco serrated knives. Also, thanks to some serrated knife tips thread on here, I slightly rounded the sharp tips of the serrations so snagging isn't an issue while the blade h...
