Re: How many different blade steels do you own?
Off the top of my head: 420 (on a lot of my Italian-made Antonini and Czech Mikov) 420J2 (China-made Buck 37X series knives) 425 (Mikov uses this on some of their fixed blades) 425M (most Bucks from the '80s-mid '90s) 440A (several of my American-made traditional folders; and some lower end, America...

Re: Just for fun (pole) Are you a righty or a lefty?
Left-handed; and I've mostly just used backlocks. That being said, I've used basically every lock on the marketplace (the Neely Lock is one I keep hearing is problematic, and don't own, but want to try anyway--and am trying to find an original Camillus-built version, instead of the imported version ...

Re: What do lefties think about serrations?
Southpaw here. Most of my Spydercos are serrated, and I find them really easy to use. Now, PE chisel ground edges I can't stand (ironically, both of them floral knives). And the only "lefty flip" versions that I have seen are high-priced budding/grafting knives aimed at the horticultural i...

Re: It’s time for a green salt Dyad !
I would be more into the Dyad Jr. I like a small lockback with dual PE/SE blades. My current one is a 1990s Camillus; which can't be opened with one hand. The large Dyad was nearly $300--and that was 8 years ago! 10 years ago, the Dyad Jr. was $110. On another note, for cost-effectiveness, maybe bri...

Re: Elastic Ceramic mule interest poll
I had a cheap ceramic knife in my late teens and quite liked it. Unfortunately, it got borrowed and my grandmother broke the tip off by accident and threw it away. I think this Elastic Ceramic is a huge improvement over the "el cheapo ceramic knife". And exactly the whole point of the Mule.

Re: Would you buy a Tanto Para 3?
For many years, I was a member of the "Tanto blades are stupid" club. But, for hard use, they've become my go-to blade. I have a banged up Emerson Mini CQC-7 and Cold Steel Voyager L (Japan-made) that get this use a lot. It wasn't until I started throwing everything I could at the banged-u...

Re: eBay is crazy
Hope this doesn't sound off-topic: While good quality (i.e. Spyderco; but anything better than Tac Force/M-Tech/Frost for that matter; the latter three I find often) modern tactical knives are rare around here (but decent traditional folders kinda common), I recently decided to cut back on my spendi...

Re: What watch you're wearing?
I recently replaced a banged-up Timex I wore as a work watch with a Bertucci DX-3. Basically, my rules are simple for watches--field watch, under $100; 40mm case. I can read this one better, the luminescence is MUCH better than Indiglo, and pretty cheap. I bought it "certified used" (but c...

Re: subway bowie!
I have been trying to find a decent sized fixed blade for my pocket. While I'm still getting an Esee pretty soon, I'm not the biggest fan of skeleton-handle knives. Most are a little too slim, even with handles. The Morakniv Eldris feels like a brick. I mostly just carry it with the belt attachment....

Tiny Mariner--Tie Clip/Keychain?
Found this in a web search. Looks like a mini Rescue/Mariner. I know the Police exists in a tiny tieclip form, but what exactly is this?

A little less Henry Ford with the color options. Something more in line with what we can get with the Seki knives.

Re: Re: Tool for gardening (prep for new plants)?
Harpy or Byrd Cara Cara Rescue 2 at present, often joined by a Stihl folding saw and ARS pruning shears (who I think makes most of the Stihl saws and pruners marked "MADE IN JAPAN").

Re: Experiences with Spydercos SERRATED 8cr13mov?
I have a Cara Cara Rescue 2 that is one of my farm work knives. It's cut basically everything (rope, feed sacks, brush, rubber, belt, etc.), and it's survived quite well. Tiny bit of rust from not being maintained once, but it cleaned off easily. I think Spyderco's treatment of 8Cr13MOV is much bett...

Re: What "others" are in the mail?
For my collection: Sears Craftsman 45563 Work Knife. This was made by Kershaw in Japan, and is exactly the same pattern as the Chubby they made for Snap On Tools. New on the clam pack; $30 shipped. I figured this was a decent deal. s-l1600SR945563.jpg s-l1600945563B.jpg For use, hard use. Wanted som...

These four. Antonini is on the belt, but will soon be replaced with something else. It's not that good. The Kabar 3189 ain't bad. I expected it to be crap, but it's a fully decent knife.

Re: I don't understand automatics.
I kinda like automatics, but don't get me started on cheap butterfly knives... Albeit, I've long wanted a Hackman or a Benchmade. I've had people go bonkers when I pulled out a Victorinox Classic SD--yeah, one of those little things; aka the most malignant knife ever made. Yet, I've also had people ...

Re: What "others" are in the mail?
The one thing that getting into Spyderco really changed with me is how nice some high-end steels are--my users are an S35VN Native 5, an S30V Para 3, and a number of Sekis in VG-10 and Salts in H1. But, everything else is 1095, 1085, 420HC, or 12C27. Years ago, when my great-uncle passed away, I inh...

Re: Need help understanding this steel
It sounds like it was written by someone who didn’t understand the description they were given. My guess is that it made just from Nitro-V. PS, I hope it wasn’t you who got the last MM punch blade stockman! No sir! But I've been looking at it. I'm hoping to find an older one Queen made, as I feel t...

Re: Spyderco UTILITY Knife...
I say have two options--one that's just a utility knife, the other blade/utility knife and perhaps some kind of pry tool. I'm looking at a Stanley model at the moment which has a bit driver and saw. I have several models--two Gerber (EAB and Transit), a Lenox (with a small screwdriver/bottle opener ...

Need help understanding this steel
I noticed this semi-custom knife from a place I usually order my Moore Maker knives and some jeans from. https://www.southtexastack.com/prodimages/alt_images/large/STT-IBK-RAZOR-MQ%207876-STTch.jpg I really don't understand what they mean by "Nitro-V Steel with an AEB-L base". Is this a no...
