Re: "Just In Case" knives?
I try to have at least one rounded or sheepsfoot tip knife (or blade on a multitool) on me at all times, for the probably near nil chance I may have to cut a person or animal out of entrapment. I have also used these to cut things like wristbands and dressings from doctor's appointments off. They al...

Jester Sheath Question
I've been thinking about carrying my GITD CPM20CV Jester on a neck lanyard in a Kydex sheath along with an Acme 636 whistle (which is my setup for many small fixed blades; and recently a 58mm SAK), but I have a question about a sheath. Lots of sheaths have been made for the various blade shapes of t...

Re: [W.I.P.]First diy regrind!!
Great job! I've noticed a LOT of the less expensive knives (not necessarily cheap, I've had Case also this way); are very thick behind the edge. How well does that Harbor Freight 1x30 work? I've been looking at getting into repairing (and eventually making) knives and so far, that's my best option t...

Re: How many rent knives?
When I buy a knife, I rarely get rid of them. Some I give to family and friends, and then another forum does what is called a "POS Exchange" where a bunch of us gets together and sends a box of usually low-value knives to another member. Since outside of the big eBay lot of (3/4 cheap junk...

Spyderco Schatt and Morgan in ATS-34 (brand now deceased) Opinel (well, I only have three, but want more...) JA Henckels stockman's folders from 50 years ago - stag, nickel silver liners... Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't that Schatt & Morgan brand and offshoot of Queen Cutlery? I had never ...

I'm wondering--how about a friction folder, similar to the Svord. Simply built, a lot less stuff to go wrong as opposed to a slipjoint or locking folder.

By count: Victorinox Camillus USA Schrade USA Case Buck German Boker Benchmade (big Axis lock fan) Pre-DFC Queen. I have a 1976 Barlow that was my great-Granddad's, and perfect. I have two Big Chiefs, which, despite being cheap models, are great. One's from the 1990s, the other is from the 1950s. I ...

Re: Have you ever been ashamed of a knife you bought?
All tactical knives from Frost Cutlery. As a kid, 11-12 years old, and not quite yet fully introduced to the wonderful world of old, secondhand pocketknives (which all of the first knives I had were--they were users from my Granddad's own collection). Poorly made smurf that often got me injured due ...

Re: Have you ever been ashamed of a knife you bought?
What was I thinking? Bought this in the mid to late 90’s. The lock doesn’t engage all the way, the lock bar is silly thin, they put the word “press” on the lock bar because they figured anybody dumb enough to buy this thing couldn’t figure out how to unlock it, the steel is 440a, it doesn’t have a ...

Firefox might be great for privacy purposes, but sometimes websites break due to it. Recently, I was unable to see photos a guy on another forum had posted using Photobucket on Firefox, but I switched to Chrome and was able to see them. I'm glad I realized this issue several days before I purchased ...

Re: Time For More SPYDIE Clothing & Accessories Maybe?
I'm one of the few my age who probably still collects belt buckles. I got a few from a buddy of mine who worked in the coal mines for many years (most given to him by sales/services reps, and a couple were safety awards), then I learned when fire apparatus manufacturer American LaFrance was located ...

Re: Steel Poll - What new steel would you like to try/test on a Spyderco Mule Team knife
I was just looking at a Crucible spec sheet for CPM-20CV which mentioned a CPM-9V, said to be extremely tough and wear-resistant, and I wonder if it would be actually usable as a blade steel?

Finally, after thirty-two minutes, it worked!
The $5 discount I got for signing up last week pretty much covered the shipping.
Can't wait to put the Jester to work. It should be the perfect around the house and light EDC folder.

Re: What’s wrong with this knife?
Traditional knives are great. It's just they don't open with one hand, and high-end steel variants are rare (Queen used D2 and ATS-34 and 154CM; Buck's done a few SFOs in CPM-154 and S30V; the Canal Street made Cold Steel Ranch Boss was CPM-S45VN). Attempts to alter existing patterns (see Case Trapp...

Re: Endela All stainless steel
I hate the extra weight, but I like the fact I don't have to constantly tighten screws on my Harpy; and if a SS knife gets dirty, it's far easier than picking all the dirt out of FRN. Also, it's more sanitary due to not trapping dirt as easily. Plus, this opens them up to a lot of extra detailing. I...

Re: Knife Joker GITD Jester 20CV!!
That's a really good price! And a good way to try a new steel. I did some reading on 20CV, and as I understand, it's a little tougher than S30V.

Re: Knife Joker GITD Jester 20CV!!
I like a small knife that can take on heavy-duty jobs.
I think, for sure, I may be getting this one. CPM-20CV is definitely heavier-duty than VG-10, and I absolutely love the Jester's blade shape.
I wish this pattern would get a little more use.
