Just opened the box with my new Caly 3.5 SB in it. There's a quite a bit of vertical blade play on this knife and that's got me concerned. I also own a Caly 3.5 and Caly 3.0 which, in spite of being used for a long while, neither has any vertical blade play. Is this normal for this knife? :confused...

Been hunting them down since the orange pre-orders all seemed filled up. Got both on my check list - a PE and SE. So stoked about the...

Hi Chuck. I got the same knife recently. Did you notice a strange odor coming from the SB steel? Also, when cutting apples, do you notice the transfer of metal on to the slice of apple? Carbon steel knives will have an odor when cutting acidic foods. It is normal. It will become less distinct with ...

I have an Emerson Traveller and right away - out of the box after a bit of lube on pivot and playing with it for a day, I realized the lock could be made to easily fail with minimal spine force. There was also vertical play in the blade and you could heard the blade and lock mating surface clicking....

Think you might be surprised. AFAIK, the Japanese knife making industry is still more like a craft guild that relies on skilled workers, rather than a group of modern factories that rely on CNC and other automated equipment. Some are, literally, family operations. Better ventilation, possibly. Bett...

I finally got my 2nd batch Moonglow Manix 2. I have 1 from the first batch, and one from this new batch. The material is totally different. Exposed to the same lights it doesn't glow as bright or long. I tested this using 2 identical 6700k T5 lamps for a fish tank. Each knife was exposed to identica...

Very interesting, however that was 22-23 years ago now? I'm willing to bet it doesn't look like that any more. I would assume that like most other areas of manufacturing, some positions have been automated for consistency and quality control. I'm also sure that health and safety standards have risen...
