Re: KnifeJoker translucent manix2 lw

It sells at a price lower than that of the SPY27 version. Isn't 20cv superior to SPY27? Don’t forget that Spy27 is a relatively low production exclusive steel for Spyderco. It is more expensive than more readily available steels for that reason. Sal mentioned it awhile back. Thanks! It m...

Happy Mother's Day to all the knife-mamas!

We celebrated that date here one week ago (first Sunday of May).

It sells at a price lower than that of the SPY27 version. Isn't 20cv superior to SPY27? In edge retention yes, but "superior" is a subjective thing... I haven't tried SPY27 yet, but if it had even better edge stability and was easier to get a blazing sharp fine edge on then I'd...

Re: What Spyderco is in your pocket today??

First time I wished I had a lefty knife... :p Took a pretty bad fall yesterday, and besides some nice bruises and cuts on arms and legs I dislocated my index finger and thumb. Managed to snap them into place again, but the thumb keeps popping out and its base is blue and three times thicker than it...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

So much discussion of Chris Reeves stuff here on Sal's Spyderco forum. At what point does it become rude to Sal & crew? The comparison is natural and useful to discuss, but it could go to far. Maybe it's a discussion on the wrong thread but not on the wrong forum, IMHO. I am firmly convinced th...

Re: How does your Significant Other coexist with your knife collecting syndrome?

Gail is my partner in business and life. sal That is a wonderful and certainly rare situation because many of the couples who are life and business partners, in my experience, end up liquidating their partnership in both fields (too much time together often ends up destroying the small space of ful...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

Yes, CRK charges heavily for those inlays. I would one day love to get a large Sebenza with a black micarta inlay (thouogh I would prefer MagnaCut over S35VN/S45VN steels. Plus the EU prices are logically even higher than those in US. Still - do keep an eye on that shop, probably one of the best in...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

Vielen Dank, Matus! Ich kannte diesen Händler nicht. Given that it will be my first CRK and that I am going to spend almost 600 euros (around 720 USD - our American friends can see what it means to buy premium American knives in Europe :D ) I would like to buy the one I like the most: the Inkosi In...

Re: How does your Significant Other coexist with your knife collecting syndrome?

Precisely, mate! And that gives us a good benchmark to measure others. It is said that a medieval king asked his advisers how much his life was valued. They all fell silent in terror for fear of offending him with whatever amount they said. Then a bishop said: 29 pieces of silver. The king was furi...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

... In any case, there are no CRKs available in European online sellers apart from some left-handed models and some Small ones (which I'm not interested in). You can find the large Sebenza here - it is my preferred shop, 100% reliable with super nice stuff running it. https://altonaer-silberwerksta...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

Many thanks, Rick. It has been really useful and you have helped me a lot to make a decision. Geez! I have to stop coming around here so much. Thanks to your (Insingo) and Warstein's (Manix LW Spy-27) recommendations, almost 1,000 euros (1,200 USD) are gonna fly out of my bank account tomorrow ... ...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

HAHAH! Quote of the day, Rick! :D :p Menipo - I just recently got into CRK myself.. I have a lot of knives at this point and I usually enjoy rotating through my carry each day, but my CRKs are pretty much all I've even wanted to carry since getting them. They are excellent, excellent knives, for al...

Re: Experiences with Spydercos SERRATED 8cr13mov?

I carry a Byrd Cara Cara Rescue (SE 8Cr13Mov) in one of the compartments of the driver's door of my car. I have never used it and I pray I never have to, because its only mission is to cut the seat belt in the event of an accident. :D For any other cut on the road I carry a Victorinox Res...

Re: Spyderco shopping on Amazon - experiences

I have only bought from Amazon once because I wanted a Byrd Meadowlark G-10 and it was not available in any of the European online stores. It was a product sold directly by Amazon. Considering that if you don't like it you can return it without problem and that after collecting Spydercos for more th...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

One last question, abusing your patience ... Sebenza or Insingo? Thanks again. That one I can't really answer for you! I have a Small Sebenza, and Large Inkosi. Would be easier if both were the same size! It does seem like more people tend to prefer the Sebenza though. I will be getting a Large 21 ...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

After reading your analysis (congratulations because it is excellent (complete and balanced)) I have doubts. In your opinion, an Insingo is really worth the 550 USD that it costs in the US (I will not refer to its price in Europe because the factors we have been talking about many times would disto...

Re: Random guys honest assessment of the Slysz Bowie.

Great write-up. I don't agree with all of your conclusions, but I agree with the vast majority, as well as the overall gist of your review. Mine came in today, and I do really like it. My quick thoughts are that it's much more comparable to the Massdrop Keen, than a Sebenza or Inkosi. I'd pay ~$300...
