Rather than the Native, I'd look at the Caly 3. The Native platform suffers from the same problem as the Superleaf, in my opinion - too much choil on the blade, which in turn results in a weirder grip that you have to adjust your hand forward more to use the choil after opening, plus less cutting ed...

Most knife manufacturers sharpen on power tools. It takes some skill, but saying "never ever" is a bit extreme, especially for the many of us who have dedicated 1x30 or 1x40 belt sanding rigs that we use exclusively for sharpening.

Which has lots of drag.

Yep, exactly, the little prongs that holds the cardboard and picture in place. Not exactly serious lateral forces there :D

Hardened knife blades aren't meant for prying things unless they have geometry that allows them to handle lateral forces. Most knife blades are too thin to handle large lateral forces, which is why people snap tips so easily. Applying a load to a thin cross section of hardened blade steel is asking...

One note on that - Howe's and BBS have the same return policy on this knife, which is to say: none. ;) Where did you see this? I saw nothing on Howes that looked ANYTHING like the paragraph-long description from BBS that detailed exactly how little customer service you could expect, and if you didn...

As far as I know, Howe's only got a couple of collector numbers, since these are a Bento Box Shop exclusive. Using Howes, a company that actually respects its customers and treats th...

Yesterday my wife asked me to use my knife (1 week old manix 2 g10 s30v) after I asked her for what and she told me to pry the little tabs up on the back of a picture frame. I told her "NO"! She thought it was dumb that I have a pocket knife I couldn't use.lol this is exactly why I said n...

Much less hassle and much less of a production for me to just pull the knife out of my pocket and thumb it open. In doing a lot of repetitive tasks, a second faster is not always better than being consistent and reliable. Yep, a tool needs to be reliable and controlled, not flashy and finicky, and ...

Mine has opened a few boxes so far. Most recently about an hour ago when it opened the box that my new Vallotton Sub Hilt came in. You know you're a Spyderco addict when your answer to "what was your first legitimate use of your Spyderco" is "opening the box for another Spyderco"...

I think the wave/Emerson opener looks ugly as sin and doesn't match the rest of Spyderco's design philosophy. Also, after owning a CQC-7 I found the wave feature to be entirely unnecessary, as heater hose/cardboard/paper/tags/vegetables/envelopes/branches/etc can't run away that fast and don't mind...

The same thing could have been said back in 1981 about the pocket clips and holes...Why would you need 1 hand opening and easy access to your ''tool'' -oh wait!- because its a weapon. Thats some bullcrap argument i expected from NKP, not fellow spyderlovers. Erm, no. One hand opening and easy acces...

ya, not a fan of the wave and the meaning behind it. Tool > Weapon a big +1 to this. I want opening a pocket knife to be an intentional, deliberate act. This is the same reason I hate autos, gravity knives, and assisted opening knives. I don't even really like it when a blade has weak retention - o...

I have sliced a bit of paper with mine to check sharpness (it was pretty good), but otherwise haven't used it, and probably won't. After comparing it side-by-side with my Caly 3, I still prefer EVERYTHING about the Caly - the ergos, the cutting-edge-to-handle ratio, the clip, the bulk in pocket. At ...

While all of those above are good selections, I'd recommend either a Sage (any of the series, depending on your lock and handle material preference), or a Caly 3 or Caly 3.5. Both will be more pocketable than the Manix series or Para-2, and give you a taste for the awesomeness of the smaller Spyderc...

Mine just arrived - rock solid lockup, great fit and finish, and quite sharp out of the box. I am still not sold on the native 5 platform, and vastly prefer my Caly 3's in a knife this size, but it's definitely extremely well made.

MOST "fast deployment" crap is a novelty. If you want fast deployment, strap a fixed blade to your thigh.

Spydie dropping is flashy showing off, and not much more. You might as well be practicing how to flip a bali. At least that takes some skill.

As just one example, in the late nineties there was interest in the US and on-line forums on single bevel knives, this very quickly turned into an opportunity for makers/manufacturers to exploit and in a short period of time you could find those knives everywhere. Oh man, I remember the chisel grou...

I am not able to "partially flip" open either of my two. By that I mean, open it just a hair with my thumb in the spydie hole, then, holding the handle tightly, flick the handle aggressively away from me, then yank it back abruptly toward me a few inches. The blade seems pretty stiff. I t...
