Time for a mini Catcherman?
A few days ago I de-boned a pork shoulder for sausage meat. I pulled out my Catcherman to help out just for fun. Sure, it's not as efficient as a boning / fillet knife but it worked well. I thought of some of the other Spyderco upswept / Persian style blades ... my 75mm Persian and my micro Dyad (to...

Re: What’s your best made Spydie?
Whilst it’s nothing anybody really wants anymore, you have to admire the craftsmanship that went into the older pinned models. I’d say my Kopa is my best made Spyderco. It’s not quite custom level with very slight imperfections where the bolsters meet the inlay but it is very close. Everything else ...

Re: What's your favorite large Spyderco folder?
It’s very seldom that I carry a knife with a blade longer than 3.75. For what it’s worth, the most carried Spydercos in that category are my Renegade (a nod to the Native Chief?), JD Smith and Large Lum Chinese. For a slicer, the Large Lum is amazing! As for the other two … I like the aesthetic of t...

Re: How long have you been carrying knives, and how have your needs changed?
Whilst I had knives before that I only really started carrying a knife full time when I was in the army (35 years ago). Swiss army type knife was perfect for my needs then. Quite honestly, my NEEDS haven’t changed. I could still carry a Vic Compact all day, every day and be covered for 95% of what I...

Re: Spydie Collection Satisfaction Survey
My accumulation has definitely slowed down the last two or three years. I’ve been a net seller for a while now rather than frantically trying to get the latest models / steels / colours ... I’m down to around 80 Spydies. My Spyderco preference is for the Japanese made models. Given the prohibitive c...

Re: What's your favorite Seki City Blade?
Of the models still in production, Centofante III. Most under rated “entry level” Japanese made Spyderco. It’s way overdue for some CQI (screw construction) and a sprint with a different steel.
Discontinued models, probably Kopa, Memory, Lum Chinese and Baby Horn

Re: Benchmade Bugout Omega Spring Failure
Clearly a case of my mileage varying here. Until recently I carried BMs about as often as I did Spydercos. I’ve been using Axis locks for more than 10 years and have yet to break an Omega spring. That included almost 3 years living right next to the beach where rust might have been a worry. Recently...
