Re: Poll: DLC or Uncoated?
I prefer uncoated. I like to see the steel and don't mind some patina, gives the knife some character. But i don't have rust issues with knives over here. For me DLC is more about looks than function. I really like the Orange from Cutlery Shoppe with black DLC for their looks. But with most other sc...

Re: Paramilitary 2 Sprint Poll
Kinda shallow poll here =\ PM2 maxamet yes, dlc and cf no. I prefer to see the metal and the patina non stainless develops. Maxamet has a stonewash finish which looks really nice. I wish we would see stonewashed blades in more sprint runs of other steels. No CF due to price and i find black really b...

Re: Maxamet and the future
Or we just skip Maxamet and move on to REX 121. I'd like to extend my REX family.

Re: Maxamet and the future
I am curious what you had to pay for that PM2 and where you found it. I am still waiting for new supply from Spyderco so we can get them at reasonable prices. The Manix and Native are easy to find but the PM2/3 are gone everywhere.

Re: The curious case of the LW Manix 2
The thing holding me back from getting a Manix 2 LW is rivet construction. I like to be able to open and maintain my knives. Even more so with a spring in there that might fail. Also the fit and finish on the back spine is not optimal. The FRCP is too plasticky to me. I'd prefer FRN for a LW. I wish...

Re: Burnt Orange Rex 45
Just got my hands on a Rex 45 PM2. I am very grateful that Spyderco made this sprint run available world wide so we in Europe could get them easily too. Thanks a lot! The color and steel are very nice. Probably the sharpest knife I have ever gotten out of the box. I was just wondering how many of th...

Re: Why no offical ETAs or coming soon lists?
Why put out catalogs with stuff you cannot buy? Now people want it and are disappointed they have to wait months. In my opinion don't market it unless you are very close to releasing a product. Otherwise just don't tell.

Re: Chaparral LW Exclusives and Sprints
Make the chaparral LW the new mule platform to test new steels. Good design, small and affordable. Whats not to love.

Re: Updated shaman sprint steel poll
Any Micarta + Cruwear gets my thumbs up. Stonewashed is also good to go. Just like posted above the Shaman begs for a group 2 steel. For the regular crowd there is always S30V.
20CV is very nice but i'd like that more on smaller edc and thinner blades. I would like this on a chaparral for example.

Re: Updated shaman sprint steel poll
Sal once mentioned S90V CF in a thread before we even made this poll, so i was not surprised. I guess it is his baby. But like many here i have no interest in that. And dealer exclusives just sucks for us non Americans. They are not easy to get and way more expensive if you even manage to get your h...

The color is very nice but i'd rather see it on other models. Like the Chaparral LW, which is a much better value and prettier looking knife.

Re: M390
Could be a difference in heat treatment. And not all knives in a batch will have the same hardness. One point HRC can make a big difference.

Re: Steel that takes the keenest (sharpest) edge?
You'd be looking at steel with small carbides then. A low alloy steel and not vanadium like most high end steels. I'd say 52100 (carbon steel) or ZDP-189 (small chromium carbides and high hardness) could fit the bill. Basic VG-10 is not bad either. Japanese White/Blue carbon steel in some of the sp...

Re: Micarta handles for shaman
It all depends on the quality of the material (which resin and fibers) and the way is was produced (high pressure or just low vacuüm). Same thing for carbon fiber products which can be produced cheaply with lots of voids in it. Micarta can be cheaper than G10, but if it will be the same quality i do...

204p is the same stuff, but US made. If you want real stainless stuff go for Vanax.

Re: Shaman sprint handle material
I didn't vote yet cause i am a little indifferent at this moment. Too many variables if i like scales or not. It all depends on the color and material combination used for me. It could be G10 but with the wrong color or peel ply and i'd still hate it. Or micarta with some dull fibers/color pattern. ...
