Musings on rescue knives
Expanded from a post of mine in the new H1 community group... The pictures in the revived thread on the rescue swick got me thinking about what I'd like to see in an ideal folding rescue knife. Quick background: I'm an EMT, and carry and use an Assist. However, 99% of the time, any cutting I'm doing...

I got mine in the mail yesterday, so I was able to carry it at work last night. I wasn't really taken by the design of the Para and Milly based on the pictures here -- I haven't had a chance to handle either one -- but the D2 Para is available at a good price, and it was a chance to try out a differ...

Virtually everything that's been released recently or is upcoming is on the more expensive to outright pricey side -- Rock Lobster, Chokwe, Leaf Storm, Poliwog G10, Dragonfly G10, Temperance 2, Sage 2, Manix 2, etc. The only new budget knives are the Ladybug H1 and (hopefully) the FRN Stretch. More ...

What I can say 100% is that the Salt1 is taking a much keener edge upon sharpening now than it did when it was new. That's a scary thought. I was playing with my Pacific Salt soon after getting it and accidentally shaved off a layer of skin without realizing it for a while  ! Sharpest out-of-t...

Well, yowzer, the Civilian is designed as a weapon, so if you ever have to use it, you'll want it to be as sharp as possible. It probably won't be if you've been cutting up cardboard boxes for a few days. That's pretty much the whole point of a dedicated SD knife, you don't want it to be used for u...

I don't get the Civilian. I can see wanting to carry a knife for self defense (Though I'd rather just carry a pistol), but why not in a blade shape that's more suitable to double as a day to day tool? Normal hawksbill would be fine, or anything pointy. The wave on the p'kal just looks really nasty; ...

Personally, a blade around 3 inches is the perfect size for my usual EDC. In the outdoors, I want a bigger knife, but for in town stuff, it's a great length. Smaller than that generally means a handle too small for me to hold comfortably, and not enough edge for things like slicing an apple. Larger ...

I really like the picture of the Chokwe next to the Barong and Persian. Gives a good idea as to its size, and I like how the long straight lines and angles of the Chokwe are a stark contrast to the flowing curves and roundness of the other two. I still don't know if I'm going to get one -- it'll dep...

Introduction and Rookie mini-review
Signed up here last week after lurking for a while... I've had an Assist for a couple of years, using it as my work knife (I'm an EMT) and general beater (The wavy blade and handle rope-cutting thing doubles as pruning shears!). It was my first and only Spyderco knife until a few months ago. I mispl...

Spyderco sharpening turnaround
What's the usual turnaround time for a knife sent to Spyderco for sharpening? My Assist doesn't play nice with the stones I use for normal plain edges, so I'm thinking of sending it in for a proper job...
