Re: Lexan Polymers for Spyderco knife handles and other parts ?

Lexan's just a trade name for polycarbonate.....It's great for high optical clarity needs and is pretty tough (Motorcycle crash-helmets, most car headlights and the F22 cockpit "glass" are all made from Lexan/Polycarbonate) It scratches at the drop of a hat- (CDs are made from polycarbonat...

Re: Keeping Non Stainless Spyderco Steel Satin and Shiny/No Rust/No Patina?

I had a Manix 2 in M4 for a good long time- Pocket time and used it exclusively on dry cutting (So no apples or country ham ;) ) I wiped it down with Hoppes #9 every time it went back into the case.....but it still ended up with a mild 'darkening' of the steel around the thumbhole and on the spine j...

Re: Molecular Assembler Nanotechnology will change the world, but, will we survive it?

Hmm. Like all these types of topics- There's several leaps required in capabilities needed to go from "I've proved the possibility on my white board" to "I've done this on my lab bench in a petri-dish" to "I'm able to make enough of this for low scale testing" to "...

Re: Opinel Outdoor Folder used for Bushcrafting

That's the kind of review I like. Show me what the knife will do and cannot do. Do not clutter up the video with opinions based on nothing, drunken rants, cats, or whatever. My thoughts exactly, Doc. Thank you! Do you like the blade shape Opinel chose for it? It seems very durable and efficient and...

Re: "HRC as advertised." Who is accurately listing HRC?

Perhaps a controversial point- If every single knife maker listed the HRC result for their knives: would we be obliged to believe them? Would that data add any more trust in the product? I know I can rely on Spyderco to deliver true data- because that's the way they play the game. Can't say that for...

Re: FRN vs G10 vs Wood: Strengths and Weaknesses in each for Spyderco Knife Handles?

Man has been trying to get thin veneers of wood to be stable and strong for several hundred years....and we are still struggling with it. I never worry about G10 or FRN if I have mud or blood or oil or solvent or glue or paint on my hands. I know it won't wreck them. I know I can get them clean. I d...

Re: Eye Glasses

Here in the UK, eye examinations have to meet the NHS requirements- and the price is never more than £25 (Lots of folks get them entirely free) The same goes for glasses- they have to meet NHS requirements for quality and safety.... So even the cheapest pair of glasses will be more than good enough...

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

Folks like what they like and dislike what they dislike. If someone told me they disliked knives I wouldn't be too shocked. However, someone once told me that they didn't like ice cream. I'll tell you what, there are two types of people in this world, those who like ice cream and people who I do no...

Trivex are one of the several brand names for thinner-lighter lens materials.....They make no difference to the view from the user side but they do reduce the dent in the bridge of your nose For those of us who (in previous times) would need the bottoms cut off Coke bottles to see, this is a boon......

Re: The Spyderco Earth- a knife made from 100% recycled materials

What would the footprint be to achieve this? What would the cost be? Raise prices on other products to make the new product sellable? To what end? This seems like the "drive my Prius to the airport to get in my private jet" syndrome. From a manufacturing standpoint one would need the down...

Re: The Spyderco Earth- a knife made from 100% recycled materials

I'm not entirely sure about powder steels but there are very few non recycled ingot steels. I can only think of a couple used in knives like some of Hitachi's. White steel? Maybe. Most every steel manufacturer uses recycled steel to some degree. Some blend recycled with new steel made from ore. Isn...

Re: Why no raisin M&M’s....

They could put a mini m&m inside a regular m&m... Actually that’s a great idea! Double crunchy. I bet they would sell very well. They put Reese’s pieces into peanut butter cups already, and they seem to sell. I suspect it might have something to do with the moisture content of the raisins t...

Regardless of what I might find distasteful and needlessly cruel- it's entirely up to the Spanish to decide what should be banned. That's a very wise viewpoint. I wish more people in this world thought like you. It's kept me safe on my travels around the world. ;) A closed mouth gathers no feet

The Spyderco Earth- a knife made from 100% recycled materials

So, I had a daft thought while stuck in traffic*: Spyderco do all kinds of dedicated models with charitable focus and output (Pink handles for breast cancer etc). Spyderco do all kinds of other great things for folks of all kinds and show levels of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that are humb...
