I prefer FFG as well, but recommend a saber grind to a heavy handed non-knife aficionado.

EDITED TO ADD: For me, the perfect Native would mate the OIF/OEF tan FRN C41 Native Lightweight handle with the 2009 Forum Native FFG blade without the engraving. While I wouldn't mind pinned construction, am sure screw pivots would make it even a better seller. Wow, now that sounds like the perfec...

I actually prefer the handle shape and FFG of the 4 and 5 to the FRN model. That second hump in the handle hits me in the wrong place. Never handled a 4 and would have liked to get one but they were/are pricey.

That was a sore point for me as well. I dremelled it down to look like the Native IV/V and it is comfy now.

Great post Cliff. A great knife for a knife enthusiast or just someone that needs a decent knife at a reasonable price.

I switch around a little but if I had to sell everything and keep just one it would be my Sage 1.

I've been anxiously awaiting the new lightweight Native V. But I thought I read on here that it was going to be have an FRCP handle like the Manix lightweight.

I would pick a FFG Endura for that task. Long enough blade and relatively thin for slicing. Handles come in many colors too.

Have you tried marking the edge with a black sharpie and then doing a few strokes on the Sharpmaker? Check the edge to see if the sharpie is removed evenly. It might help to show you if you are hitting the edge properly. You might be hitting the shoulder on the slightly thicker saber ground model. T...

1/4" shrink tubing from Lowes will keep your black clip black and prevent it from scratching anything.

To answer your question, nothing outside of food. The larger knives like the Sage, Delica, etc are quite a bit easier for me to open than a Dragonfly which is the only reason I prefer to carry them.

39 posts and you still haven't don't have a Spyderco? It's time for action! A liberal office setting could possibly see any knife as dangerous so I'd get what you want and make sure it stays out of sight. I think the Chaparral would be less obvious in your pocket and looks classier if someone were t...

In the past I have smoothed the G10 under the clip and on the handle edges to reduce tearing up my pockets. But in general I prefer FRN on a working knife partially b/c they are usually less expensive than their G10 counterparts which still offering plenty of grip.

If you're asking the question, then something inside you already knows the answer. You can redeem yourself by trading him back the S30V one after you have installed the new clip and sharpened it for him.

The back ones look like fingerprints and the front is probably a finger smudge from the same grubby hands, lol . If your lubricating oil doesn't work to clean them off, try some metal polish like Flitz. I use that to remove staining on my knives.

I've had slightly uneven bevels but not to the point of dissatisfaction. If it bothers you that much, see if the vendor will exchange it or send it to spyderco.
