Re: My straight razor and Spyderco's stones
Hi jackh, Welcome to our forum and thanx much for the kind words. I used a UF stone on my straight razors for years, 30 years ago. I made mine from a fine stone which I made finer using diamond hones. Ruined the diamond hones though, so I don't recommend it. I liked it so much, we developed and pro...

Re: Taking apart knives - part 2
I can't believe people return knives they take apart. If I do anything other than take a knife out of the box, open and close it a few times, and rub my thumb over the edge to test it, it's mine . Anything else is incredibly disrespectful to every party involved in getting the product to me. I've h...

Re: My straight razor and Spyderco's stones
My next experiment I think will be to use Shapton glass stones (2k and 4k) on a razor to re-set the bevel and then the Spyderco stones then stropping. Wait... what do you mean by "re-set the bevel"? Straight razors have only one bevel angle option, it's set by the width of the blade. That...

Re: My straight razor and Spyderco's stones
I can't wait to get a spyderco UF bench stone. If I was shaving though I'd probably break out the 0.1 micron (after 1 and 0.25). The Spyderco UF stone is a phenomenal stone IMO. For most EDC knives I don't think it's needed that much. Not for me anyway. But it can put a very smooth edge on a knife....

My straight razor and Spyderco's stones
I got a straight razor that I haven't used in quite a while and went through the honing process with the Spycerco fine and ultra-fine grit stones. The razor was already honed acceptably I think. I'm not a great straight razor honer but I do keep my razors up myself. I've had Lynn Abrams (Straight Ra...

New Chaparral (FRN)
I got the new Chaparral with FRN handle. I actually had seen a video review of the Chaparral with the new, very beautiful handle material whose name I can't think of. I decided to get one since I haven't spoiled myself with a new knife in quite a while. The search also brought up the FRN chaparral t...

Re: Guess what Spydie I got my daugher on her 18th
Did you get her a whale rescue blade? :) If not I can't think of a better knife for EDC than an FRN dragonfly or the new Chaparral in FRN. Both are small knives and while both have come in different handle materials I can't think of one that I like better than FRN. It's not heavy but it's strong eno...
