Re: Is this normal for MAXAMET?

Maxamet does seem to have a propensity to have little tiny pits, this is from a new PM2. Pics are from a clip on macro lens, maybe 10x. The pitting is visible to the naked eye, which is why I looked closer. https://drandalls.files.wordpress.com/2021/01/img_1883.jpg https://drandalls.files.wordpress...

Re: Manix vs Yojumbo

The Compression Lock is superior to both the CBBL and Backlock.
Wharncliffe is the best blade shape.

The Yojumbo is Spyderco's #1 best knife design (we just need it in Maxamet now).

Re: Spyderco UTILITY Knife...

I still think asking Spyderco for a utility knife is like asking Ferrari for a go-cart. We now return you to the fantasy in progress. Making fancy go-carts happens to be the reason Ferrari exists: https://cdn-1.motorsport.com/static/img/amp/4900000/4980000/4983000/4983900/4983991/s6_1012382/1012382...

Re: Spyderco UTILITY Knife...

AND if Spyderco did make a disposable blade platform, we could probably get a pack with multiple blades of Maxamet and S110V and Rex121 all for under $20.
It would effectively obsolete the Mule program.

Re: Repair a SE

Learning how to sharpen the Serrated Edge with a Bench Stone revolutionized SE blades for me, I went from practically ignoring that they exist to happily EDC'ing several Full SE knives that were always kept shaving sharp.

Re: Repair a SE

I wouldn't worry about the chip too much, maybe use a thin diamond rod to grind out the chip into a new mini scallop ("Personally" I would use a diamond bit Dremel tool), but in general I'd bet you could get away with mostly ignoring it if you give the blade a good sharpening on a benchst...

Re: Spyderco UTILITY Knife...

I do have a serious question here. Why spend hundreds of dollars on a well-designed knife with great ergonomics, made from premium materials with a blade of carefully selected high-performance steel honed to a razor edge when you do all the real work with a 5 cent utility knife blade? I know a lot ...

Re: Do we do people disservice?

Spyderco needs to start making Disposable Blade Folders. OLFA has fantastic steel in blades that cost pennies a piece and they have been the industrial standard box cutters for probably half a century now. Any other attempts at producing an industrial box cutter that I have seen have been direct imi...

Re: Long Blade Folder Guys ... what you cutting?????

If anyone is wondering about the efficiency of sharpening large blades, that problem is easily solved with an 8"x8" Diamond Plate: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32839483369.html

Re: Long Blade Folder Guys ... what you cutting?????

Cardboard. In normal use (non-abusive) you will see linear gains in Edge Retention with increased Blade Length. All else being equal, a four inch blade will cut twice as much cardboard as a two inch blade. And thus my normal box-cutter is actually a 6" Full Flat Distal Taper folding knife of an...

Re: Which one will dominate?

I ONLY want Larrinite/MagnaCut from here on out. However, I suspect we will be forced into overpaying for it via short run sprints and exclusives. Plus, with the literal tons and tons of S30V knife makers have stock piled, we will be forced to wade through that for years to come. You likely won't n...

Re: We already have the solution. Now what we need is to find the problem

I've been saying for a while now it would be really interesting if Spyderco would make a version of the Military with a disposable blade (probably 1.5mm thick), where the handle is the important part and you get to buy a 10 pack of blades for $25. (That sort of design might be a good case for introd...

I hate to bring in the dreaded "Car Analogy", but Spyderco Knives are like Sports Cars.

Re: New CPM Stainless Steel??

This new steel seems "magical" because it was specifically designed for knives, so it is not making compromises like other steels used in industry. However, this is not the first steel designed for knives, but it seems to be better is several important ways (at least that is how I see it)...

Any Powdered Steel of lower alloy content than S90V is obsolete.

S30V/S45VN should be discontinued ASAP.

Given that the steel already has a name obviously we're not going make anything that legally sticks here, but casually I think it's cool to call it Larrinite.

Re: New CPM Stainless Steel??

I suggest Larrin and Spyderco collaborate on a new knife design to celebrate the invention of what will surely become the new industry standard cutlery steel of the 21st Century (unless someone figures out that amorphous metal thing sooner than later).

Well it looks like all Stainless Steel knives pre-2021 are now obsolete.

Many congratulations to Larrin.
