scolby> I'm a big fan of the lockback, but I have had no problems closing the compression lock. I've never been pinched, and unlike the lockback, I can actually release the lock with all my fingers out of the way. This makes closing a one-step process rather than two-step. <a href=http://www.spyderc...

One other interesting thing, my wife's grandfather witnessed a person bleed to death in a car accident because the seatbelt was jammed and no one had a knife. This was several decades ago. From that point forward, he refused to wear a seatbelt and always carried a knife. I wouldn't advocate driving ...

I install, configure, and support software. I also train users on its use and occassionally customize it. It's rare that I have to use a knife when I work, and then I only use my SS PE Dragonfly (sheeple friendly), to open hardware boxes and the like. I have worked in environments where I opened box...

That's why I don't buy the latest computer technology, it still has bugs. You can perform all the laboratory and field simulation tests you want, but until the product gets into the hands of the end users, it hasn't been really tested. Methinks antichristina has an axe to grind. I don't think I've s...

I carry both: PE for versatility, SE for cutting power. To me they're just tools: gotta have the right tool for the job. I have two wood carving sets, one with standard handles and one with push handles. Each set has four or five blades. When I carve (rarely these days), I might favor one or two bla...

So is the Merlin a Kerambit form? I've also seen pictures of an African ring knife. The ring was worn on the index finger and the blade was relatively long, comparably. With no apparent handle. <a href=http://www.spyderco.com/forum/Topic.asp?topic_id=6200&forum_id=7&Topic_Title=Terms%2Bused%...

Now that I've had my Vesuvius for all of seven days, I feel a little more qualified to make initial comments on it. The blade locks up nice, opens smooth, and fits well in my hand. I was looking for something longer than my CE Native, but the Endura was just a little too long for my taste. Plus I am...

I take the perspective of whether the object (knife, stick, gun) has multiple (prime) uses or not, and what the perceived intent is. A gun's only prime use is as a weapon, to harm or kill a person or creature. A knife can have multiple prime uses. The ones I carry function as tools and as weapons, b...

Got an older sharpmaker for the blades, a few flat stones I almost never uses. I use WD40 to clean the pivots. (like my new 93mm Rescue, pivot was really tight, WD40 loosened it up.) I've found that Rem oil works better than 3 in 1 oil for lubricating the blade, but I don't like that it's poisonous....

dialex> I carry mine tip up IWB, so I'm not worried about the blade opening, though it is very loose compared with lockbacks. I'm not having any trouble closing it one-handed (right or left). The knife has some heft to it, quite different than my usual Spydie FRNs. <a href=http://www.spyderco.com/fo...

In my experience, people who regularly use dull kitchen knives get very irritated when you sharpen them. They're also uncomfortable with the sharp blade (oh no, I might actually cut something!). My kitchen knives are quite sharp, and my wife complains if they get dull. We hate cooking at our parent'...

I don't think it matters whether you start w/ 30 or 40. If you do both, you'll get the same bevel. The point of the 40 bevel at the edge is for strength.
