Re: Stippled Stainless

Maybe a knurled pattern, but stippling would not be for me.

Re: Military 2 info? Anyone?

I'd love pretty much anything other than S30V/35VN, just for variety and steel-snobiety's sake ^^. Probably will cave and get the S30V version in the end but maybe get a custom blade for it (some more length, less needle'y tip and a unique steel choice maybe, I'm fine with the black G10) Where do y...

Re: Steel genie is about to turn all your knives into one steel…what are you picking.

An alloy of 98% rhodium, 1% iron, and 1% carbon (still technically steel, right?). I will then melt those knives down, sell the rhodium, and buy hundreds of knives in whatever variety of steels I want. With the left over cash I'd probably buy a house.

What constitutes a tanto is surprisingly broad. This diagram of various tanto profiles with cross sections might interest some.

I imagine there would be some reservations about changing a design by a person that has passed away. but I would really like a 4 way clip and a non-pinned pivot.

Re: Calling Larrin

I might have dreamed this, as I can't find the link now. But I have a fuzzy memory of reading a thread on blade forum years ago talking about this phenomenon. I think it was specifically regarding 440C. Rust was considered less likely since 440c is pretty stainless (and regarding other oxidation, I'...

Even with my love of Cruwear I've passed on all these KC exclusives due to hating the smooth G10. This one is making me reconsider.
I just got my first knife with smooth G10, and I can't imagine hating it. Or loving it for that matter. It just kind of is.

Re: Fat Kiwi

I imagine that would look something like the cold steel mini tuff lite but ofc with perfect circle deployment hole instead of the fat tic tac shaped one. I think this concept would make an awesome knife for spyderco. That's a really good point. I've seen that knife a million times, and somehow didn...

Fat Kiwi

I think most agree that the Kiwi family is one of the all time greats that is sorely missed in the current offerings. Besides being just an aethetically pleasing and useful series of knives, I think it's also interesting how different the range was. Slip joints, lock backs. Fancy inlays, G10. Clip, ...

I would prefer the removal of the lanyard tube and slim out the butt.

If we're messing with the butt shape I'd like to see a coffin style. Feels more cohesive with the bowie-esque blade.

Re: FNR Handle Material is?

If you mean FRN, it's "fiberglass reinforced nylon". It's composite, the nylon is plastic, and the fiberglass is glass fibers -- so silica, and probably some other stuff. Plus whatever else goes in the secret sauce. Surely, some UV stabilizers and pigment. I've never had FRN break or fall ...

Re: Fat guy problem: I keep losing knives when they're clipped to my pocket

Back pocket works for me. Also, maybe slash pockets instead of a traditional jeans pocket? The knife will sit more to your side rather than in front, so there is less to push it out. I can't stand slash pockets if I plan on having anything else in there, though, way too easy for non-clipped things t...

Literally as far back as I can remember. I found a Case folder on the side of the street, I couldn't have been older than 6. Sharpened it on a cinder block, carried it everywhere.
This kind of reminiscing has to be close to the platonic ideal of a good folksy grandpa story.

Re: Need some help about Endura SNOW PEAK

Cool find. I’ve always wanted to get some Japanese market only Spyderco knives! There must be a name for the phenomenon of any-and-every hobby eventually evolving an obscure (and expensive) JDM phase. Whether it's model kits, watches, knives, a/v stuff, cars, etc. No one can resist the allure. My w...

Re: Chaparral Lightweight - Unexploited Gem

Never tried s90v but would like to try one of these days. More than that, I would love to see the Chaparral become a platform for all the different steels. Perhaps in a rotating, but non-limited capacity. Like, have a run of the hot new tool steel, then some CPM-whatever, then do another few runs of...

Re: Let’s face it Liner Locks and Back Locks suck!

The vast majority of my knives are back lock and liner lock. Mostly back lock. I used to find back locks a little old fashioned. I dislike the un-open nature of it (can't really do stand offs), and it seems more susceptible to grime messing with the lock up. But, the bias towards close and being an ...

Re: Condolences for your missed deals

Knivesshipfree was the MVP (MVR?) for sales this season. I kept a few tabs open all weekend and really ruminated on a couple of knives. Ultimately, I decided to pass on all of them. But it hurt. $107 for a Spy27 Manix and the 90-something dollar LC200N Pac Salt were the ones that almost got me. Nat...
