Re: How low do you go?

I take both my Spydercos to 17 degrees off the flat grind. Since I use my knife for serious work, I'm cognizant of the diminished strength of steeper angles. But even more important, a shallower angle diminishes the aesthetic appeal of an otherwise pretty knife. For me, it makes no sense to go steep...

Holy cow. Some of you gentlemen are wound up and serious. Lighten up, boys. We're just here to have fun and talk about knives. Geez.

ORANGE Dragonfly? What do the ladies think?

Edit:
Sorry. Too many people getting too serious and bringing me down.

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

I attribute this to both the SM rods and the steel, as I've used a brown rod in the past and was pleasantly surprised with its cutting speed. I couldn't match the bevel perfectly, but it got very sharp very quickly. I'll be getting lots of practice with the rods, since I consider any serrated knife...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Ok, I'll join in. It might be fun to compare and maybe get some new ideas. I like to work on an Edge Pro Professional. My focus has changed recently. In the past, my primary goal was getting a fine, mirror-like edge. My finer stones are a 2k blue speckled, a 5k bamboo, and an 8k speckled ume. From t...

Re: Do you immediately sharpen a new Spyderco?

Well I don’t mind sharpening knives I don’t have time to sit down and just do that for no reason. I have the skill to put an edge on a blade that is far superior to how it comes from the factory, so I do it. I've also structured my life so that there is time to do anything that I choose. For those ...

Re: Spyderco Sticker Woes

I've not got a solitary sticker from any seller. Granted, I really want knives, so... Seems like a relatively inexpensive advertising tool. After all, a clip sticking out of a pocket doesn't get a casual observer to think, "****, I'd better look in to buying one of those Spyderco knives!"...

Re: Spyderco Sticker Woes

Spyderco has stickers? I've never received one packed with a knife. Stickers are cool, sometimes I'll put them on water bottles, tool boxes, or on equipment where someone will see it in the distant future, and scratch his head wondering who put it there. As far as swag goes, I'm a bigger fan of t-sh...

Re: Factory edge poll

Spyderco puts a nice edge on their knives before they leave the factory. They're perfectly usable right out of the box. However, I can never be truly happy with an edge until I make it my own. As good as Spyderco's edges are, on both that I own, there has been slight variations along each edge that ...

Deere is very covetous of their identity and their logo.
I would assume they're not easy to deal with.

Before and After

You already know what a Manix 2 LW looks like, so I'll just post the close-ups. The knife was sharp enough to be useful, and not at all shameful. But the edge wasn't all it could be, and I was bored. So I got out a little pocket magnifier and the iPhone and began to play. Upon seeing a serrated edge...

Re: Cannot loosen pivot screw

I'm using Wiha drivers and putting tons of downward and lateral pressure simultaneously. Y'know... tools become rounded and dull, just like knives. If you've used or abused your fancy Wiha driver for a while, it's likely that the tip is rounded off. Standard practice is to grind the tip of your too...

Re: Spyderco Knives

Is this really worth the high msrp? Are the quality of these knives really THAT much better? Well, to me the price isn't all that high compared to other "nice" knives that I've purchased over the years. I always thought that Spyderco's had a weird look about them, so they were never on my...

Re: Why all the Manix love?

I like to carry a knife that when I take it out around people, that may not necessarily be into knives, say that’s a nice knife. I don’t like to have to sell the ergo’s every time to them. I like to be discrete and avoid flashing my knives in public. It makes some people uneasy, and waving around a...

Re: What did you use your Spyderco for last?

I've used the knife a couple times since then, but last Friday we went out for sushi, and I thought it would be cool to use my Manix 2 with S110V to slice some larger creations into smaller, bit-size pieces. The results were gorgeous, as if the chef had done it himself. Of course my edge has seen a ...

Re: Help convince me that FRN handles are better than they look..

I think it was the blue Manix 2 LW that gave me my first initial bad impression about the looks of FRN. Hmmm... I actually like it. I like the color, I like the looks of the pattern, and I like the grippiness of the pattern in my hand. I like the lightness, and so far, the material is durable. Unti...

This thread reminds me of elementary school children that argue over who has the better shoes that make them jump higher. Hooray! You've just won the award for the most succinct post of the day! I was thinking to myself, "WTF am I reading this thread? It's like schoolboys arguing the merits of...

Maybe this was gone over before, not sure, but... tonight I was cutting tomatoes for a salad with my Military. And I noticed something... the military, which I seldom carry daily because it seems "too big" to some people... could barely slice a tomato. Well... let's look at it another way...
