Supposedly there wasn't a significant enough difference between the CPM D2 and regular D2 to to justify producing it, so the current batch of CPM D2 and all the knives made with it will be all thats ever made. The other test knife is a Mel Sorg custom RC'd at 62, which is fairly high. Do we know wh...

This guy isn't a friend. Friends don't steal from each other. He needs to reimburse you for the current cost of the knife or you should consider legal action. I agree this was likely the first he was caught or admitted to. Anyway I see no reason to trust him and allow him in the house or anywhere el...

My understanding is that BG42 is essentially just a cleaner version of ATS13. How does it compare to VG10 and S30V in terms of taking a really fine edge, and holding it a long time ? Is it any harder to sharpen to a really fine edge than S30V ? I'm unable to find anything about ATS 13 steel. Could ...

Yes Joe, I do. But what do you (not them) call a man of 65 or 75, nearly dead? Cornelius, My 20 year old son thinks I'm a fossil. I'd imagine he'd have some thoughts about anybody 35 or older as being in one class. Just another old person. Funny thing though. He also assumes old people are going to...

From : KaliGman You know what you know because you actually used the gun. I have done pattern testing on various shotguns with 00, 000, and 4 buck. I test anything that I might have to use for "serious social purposes" and at one time my main long gun for duty use was a 14 inch barrelled, ...

I'd be more worried about grinder accidents & the loose fibres grabbing the blade and it turning into the spinning wheel of destruction than losing heat treat. I use a dremmel tool with these type things. Same polishing wheels , same white, red, green stuff etc. I do lower speeds and keep the bl...

I know that, but I wouldn't get rid of , nor buy a knife based on it's color. There again, is it any different than me getting knives to try their steel? to each his own. Joe

Is an age of 45 old?
Yep, I'm afraid so. Do you get around people in their twenties and early 30's much? Ask them what old is. Joe

I've got a goatee. I just shampoo it with a clarifying shampoo just like my hair. Nothing special. It has a few gaps but I'm not one to worry about my looks too much. I feel either it will grow, or it won't. I can't grow a decent full beard because of patches. Genetics has a lot to do with it. Does ...

Jim, We used Rem 700 bull barrell "Varmint Specials" on our PERT team, in .243. They did dime size groups with regular 100 gr. sp, non match. Better with match ammo. I always got a kick out of the name Varmint special. It seemed fitting. .243 had very good terminal effect at the ranges we ...

I apply slip joint safety rules to anything that folds, so I still have all my finger. You know, I never thought about it but I have always done this too. I grew up with slip knives and got bit a few times when young. Perhaps that's why I haven't had trouble. I also never overload, twist or torque ...

Thanks deacon. My brain should have picked that one up but at times it reacts like my mastiff when he hears the refigerator door open. A kind of Pavlovian reaction as such. There is talk of another steel under development at cruicible so my brain heard what it wanted to hear. Joe

Today my perfect knife would be a Manix with Vascowear. Tomorrow, who knows. In reality I could live the rest of my life with VG10. It's that good. Would that be fun though? Joe

I can't wait until the more better steel is decided on this December!

Then I can throw my ZDP Caly Jr (which I am about to order) into the "obsolete" drawer!
Can you explain this? I must have missed something. Joe

I wouldn't be here if I hadn't used force before. I would NEVER kill over money, jealousy, or reasons that the laws would not allow however in a self defence/defence of others, law enforcement, or legal military situation there's not a lot of hesitation in me. Not a lot of regret either provided I'm...

I started out with a lansky system, went to diafolds and got pretty good at it. The only problem is scratches in the blade ( my hands have some problems and it's easier for me to scratch a blade than someone with normal , non damaged hands. Still, I can sharpen steels that most shy away from and don...

Recall Sypderco did it's own testing on it before they thought about releasing it. Also recall Sal stated it was so good they just had to get it out ASAP. Don't hit any panic buttons just yet, and objectively give these knives a good test. That's what they're for. Joe Note: I see no signs of rust on...

I've got all the ones I obsessed about. I long ago realized I could not afford, or store one of every spyderco ever made, so I went after the ones I really liked. I've got around 90 spyders now. What gets me going is the new steels Sal comes up with. ZDP 189 is a good example. For about a year I cou...
