Re: Positron/Ion topic

I was expecting this knife to cost along the lines of the Southard, and am very glad it isn't! I will definitely have to pick one of these up because the Southard is my favorite Spydie!

Then I also want that GB2...

Re: Murdered out SE Pac Salt

I doubt Spyderco will market the new Black blade Salts as murdered out. Or any model as such. Just some knife slang the cool kids say, surprised you have never heard it before. I bet if you search here "murdered out" I am not the first person I am sure to use the phrase. I have heard that...

Re: Is being quoted annoying or helpful?

I like it. While it doesn't happen much for me, it is convenient to be able to know when someone is either responding to a comment or asking a question about something I said.

Re: What Are You Reading ?

I am maybe 2/3 of the way through 'The Onion Field' and man it is good. Aside from it being the telling of a true story, it is also just really well done. You get a sense for what every character is about, while at the same time leaving a portion of each to the imagination, and hopefully going into ...

Re: anyone edc a retractable pen?

My Lamys are a medium fountain, and a fine ballpoint...with walnut ink that I made... Dark brown, but the next batch this month will be near black... Any chance of a picture of that?? I have been dabbling more and more in inks and walnut sounds gorgeous. Right now I have a navy blue and palm green ...

Re: Collecting Zippo lighters

I am a bit of a Zipp guy myself (though I don't smoke except for a cigar every few months) and have about 6 I think. I don't look for unique or old ones, just ones that I like and think are cool.

There is just something about the sound of opening and closing a Zippo that is fantastic.

The funny thing is, even with having and carrying fancy fountain pens, I still have a Fisher space pen in my pocket every day regardless haha

Re: anyone edc a retractable pen?

Is it made out of "precious resin?" I laughed aloud when I saw that claim in my skymall magazine the last time I flew. A quick internet search shows others calling shenanigans on this claim as well, with no indication of what makes it precious. Maybe it's coveted by a golem-like creature?...

'The Onion Field' by Joseph Wambaugh

I will be traveling across the country today so I should get a good chunk of it finished.

Re: anyone edc a retractable pen?

I have had click pens leak on me and i don't approve of such things, so I carry a Montblanc at work, and then a fisher space pen in my pocket. I have a Montblanc 149 and a Writers Edition Daniel Defoe, and lately the Defoe has been getting the most use, it is a beautiful pen! For years I have carrie...

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

I started a new job a few weeks ago. So far no one has found out I carry a knife everyday. I have been trying to keep the size down (I swear!), but just love my Millie, TiDelica, Southard, Lionspy, Navaja, Vallatton, etc.. I at the very least want it to be a gorgeous knife, if not a smaller one, whe...

Re: Attitudes towards craftsmen

I think the problem is the over inflated sense of entitlement in this country. Instead of learning a skill, people essentially buy a degree and then expect everything to be handed to them, and the system is more than happy to do so. It's a sad fact that education is far more valuable today than exp...

Re: Your thoughts on tantos?

I have the Lum Tanto fixed burgandy and while it is absolutely gorgeous, the lines are amazing, and it is a grail, I hardly ever use it. I mostly am nervous about having to sharpen it as it just seems so dang tricky and I don't have enough experience, especially with tantos( read: none) to want to g...

Re: Why Do People Hate Knives?

This bothers me a lot as well. I recently (I think easter weekend?) was visiting my family and brought my Spydie collection up to show some new members to my brother and Dad. A friend of my sister was there and when she saw my ~36 Spydies laying out in their carrier, she asked "Why do you have ...

Re: What Are You Reading ?

I still did like it, but not as much as "Cat's Cradle," and probably not as much as it is raved about. Interestingly, I also liked Cat's Cradle better, but of the books I've read of his, S5 was last place, and CC second to last place. Of the books I've read, I'd rank them thusly: 1st: Gal...

Re: What Are You Reading ?

Curious what you thought about it. I'm a Vonnegut fan, but to be honest I read this one with a zeal whose source was something other than joy. I just wanted to get to the point and have done with it. I realize that all of Vonneguts books are allegorical, but many adequately disguise themselves as i...

Re: What Are You Reading ?

I finished 'Slaughterhouse-five' lastnight and have to decide what is next.

Has anyone read "The Onion Field" by Joseph Wambaugh? I am considering this next.

Though, I may read "The Maltese Falcon" in the mean time as it is a short one.
