Re: Manix 2 C101PGY2 W/ Maxamet

I'm with you Hans, $160 for a LW seems a tad high for me Not that $160 is so much money, but I'm kind of feeling the same way. It was worth the extra $30 - $35 to get the S110V LW Manix vs. the BD1 version and to upgrade from VG10 to ZDP189 on my Endura. But I don't know that I use my knives hard e...

Re: Manix 2 C101PGY2 W/ Maxamet

I think they'll sell very well. That said, I just reacquired a Lightweight S110V and I couldn't be happier. I'll take the higher corrosion resistance and give up some abrasion resistance.

Re: Strop Confusion

I have a lot of small scrap leather pieces from sheath making so I just grab a piece and apply some Flitz. After stropping I discard the leather.
I don't always strop. I like a coarser edge.

Re: Mantra bearing race issue SOLVED

Nice vid! Good solution for people who like tinkering and don't mind voiding their warranty. Call it a teething problem. Spyderco still needs to figure out a way to make these smooth out of the box. And I'm sure they will. I don't think it's necessary to take it apart to do this, just drop some oil...

Re: Mantra Bearing Race

It is interesting to think that bearings on knives are a solution to a problem that didn't exist. Sure they can produce extra smooth action but they add complexity and can create problems. I just received a $170 knife from another company. I had heard only good things about this knife. Guess what? T...

I can't disengage the Positron's lock one-handed without difficulty. Hard to have a successful model when many people have this issue.

Handle looks fine to me. I don't like the blade shape. Even a steep discount won't get me to open my wallet.

Re: GB1 vs GB2 - Now that it's been out a while

I didn't thin the blade out, I corrected the slightly asymmetrical bevel angles and set the angle to 30 degrees, the flex I felt was in the thin edge portion of the blade, a ripple of edge deflection as the blade traversed the stones. I'd actually call the grind my blade came with a moderately high...

Re: GB1 vs GB2 - Now that it's been out a while

Now that I have a GB1 in hand, there is something that the pictures can't convey that really strikes me: the handle is a beast! those thick liners are amazingly solid, but in complete contrast to that, the blade grind is like a razor... so thin that it leaves me wondering why you need the ultra-bee...

Great pics, that's a pretty knife indeed. I'm going to try to wait until I find a deal on this knife. Eventually I think it's likely to be deeply discounted like the Memory. If I get impatient I'll just pony up.

Re: spyderco knife storage

I like the Spyderpac in both sizes. You can hang it open with the knives visible and easily accessible or fold it up and put it away. Be careful though, when you see all the empty slots you'll want to fill them with more Spydercos!

I like those two a lot. Great material and color combos. Makes me think about getting custom scales for my GB1.

Re: GB1 vs GB2 - Now that it's been out a while

I'm amazed that you can still find a lightly used or LNIB GB1 for really cheap. I watch them sell slowly on the exchange. Weak pricing on eBay. I guess they'll become scarce eventually. The GB2 isn't a bad knife but it doesn't do anything for me. If they had changed the handle material that would ha...

That is going to be a sweet model! The one with S90V steel, not damascus. Pricey though.
