Re: About as off topic as it gets....

Nice fish, I have to wonder if you get more excited about catching one of those or getting to use your knives.

Re: 2013 Forum Native Price Check

Check the bay. If NIB $225+ seems to be a going rate. There are many factory seconds that are around but not the same.

Re: Sandpaper & various Knife Sharpening materials

The higher polish for me seems to work better on say a smoothing plane the mirror polish is also very aesthetically pleasing. 3M seems to be the best quality. I usually buy from the local hardware or if there are automotive shops they have the best stuff for car body repair.

Re: Sandpaper & various Knife Sharpening materials

With the adhesive it is not permanent but it keeps it in place. You can lift off the wet/dry sandpaper after it is used up without a problem. Probably for knives I would start around 400 and go up to 2000 to 3000 for a mirror polish. I depends if you want to take off stock or polish the edge. If you...

Re: Flippers: Fun, Flash, Fashion but…

All knife fads come and go. In the end I carry my knife for the edge. That is why I like the Spyderco's designed from the edge out, can't be beat. Same thing about flippers could be said about hole deployment. I think flippers have a place but not all. I really like the SA designs of front flippers ...

Re: Sandpaper & various Knife Sharpening materials

Just in basic stock removal for really dinged up blades by using sandpaper you are probably saving your stones for better uses down the road. Being careful of the grit sizes you use are truly important because I don't think you want to use super big grit sizes like that in floor sanding paper for i...

Re: Sandpaper & various Knife Sharpening materials

There is nothing low tech about using sandpaper, it is just another form of grit medium. I learned about Mike Dunbar's scary sharp method and use it for all straight bevel things like chisels and plane blades. It takes them to a serious mirror polish. I use wet/dry sandpaper on a mouse pad for conve...

Anyone know if other clips will match up with the three screw arrangement? I'm not crazy about a painted black clip. Price looks awesome.

Pilot Vanishing Point- great pen. Zebra F-701 is ok but the cartridge is poor. Pilot G-2 gel ink works well.

MT01 52100 Long Term feedback

I'm interested in those that have been using this knife long term. What are your impressions? Edge holding ability, sharpening, etc. Does anyone know what the RC was on this? Is there anyone who put a casewell finish on their knife? Does this steel have any comparison to other mules or current knive...

Re: Attitudes towards craftsmen

Materials used to be expensive and labor was cheap. When I look at inlay work and frame and panels it reflects the time that was put in. Now material is relatively cheap and labor is expensive (in the Western world). Craftsmanship still exists, woodworking, flytying, knifemaking and forging but you ...

When the razor comes out I'm glad I got the Hep A-B shots.
It is nice to go a barber that turns out nice hair cuts. $2-3 bucks is great. I get sticker shock in the US .

For me it is a lot about the lines. -Caly 3 in whatever flavor, super blue, ZDP-189, great lines -Rookie G-10, I have not owned this knife but really like the way it looks, nice and thin -Lum tanto folder, I'm drawn to it, I can't say why but it has a look that will stand out 100 years from now -Per...

Sal, Sprig as a blank?

I'm jumping the gun a bit but after putting handles on mules I really enjoy the process. The Sprig looks like a beautiful knife but I would love to put my own handles on and sheath. Any chance of it being available as a blank?

Taking off the burr

I usually strop my knives to take of the burr but sometimes I simply draw the edge through wood and it seems to do the same thing. Anyone else have any pros or cons to the method?
